Starting my Rdwc and transplanting general questions

Hi guys, I am just wanting advise on how to transplant and what baskets to use. I'm not familiar with the weird ones that are deeper with the centrepiece in pic one (What is that for?) If i use the ones without do I put them all the way to the bottom and fish the roots through basket? (Plants are not as tall as basket) or do I put my hydroto n at bottom of basket then the plant and fill more hydroton around like I would with soil. One last thing are the old enough to tell male or female? They went into their rockwool on the 6th and would make them a month next week. Thanks so much guys looking to learn and have max yeild. Ps my cat was killing them all that' why they are in a cage until they get in my tent with my Rdwc set up . Thanks so much in advance first time grower here!

I think the top ones are just so you use less pebbles. I'd put the cube on that pedestal then gently fill around it.

As far as the normal pots I fill them until my cube sits about an inch below the rim. Then gently fill in around your roots. And usually even more carefully put a single layer of rocks an top of the cubes. The roots will find their way to the water below. You'll just need to either fill the water to keep the pebbles good and moist of just grab a cup or two of the bucket water and dump it on the seedling a few times a day.

For what it's worth I put my seedlings in the net pot with pebbles while the roots are a little smaller to avoid fiddling with them. But they should be just fine. Just a personal preference because I have fat thumbs and smash everything

Lol ok thanks a lot, we were trying to get everything set up and didn' have the funds for every thing at once. So that did put me behind on starting them. But I will be taking your advice and doing them younger next time. Thanks for the info!

I went with the odd baskets because I had all 12 of one kind. One more question will i have to switch baskets When they get larger or are they good for life span?

Good for life. The pots are just to help anchor everything. I'm assuming bucket dwc so once the roots come through the pot life gets easier. I used to use 4 inch pots cut I to lids. Now I use 6 inch bucket lid pots. Sorry just saw the title again. Yes good for life

What kind of system you running bottom feeder, or main res & pump ,are you using white buckets

Going to be a bit of a cluster mess until I weed out the males if any but I have 6 buckets up to this rdwc res and pump system it' not ebb and flow just constant flow. And the other 6 are just going to be stand alone topfeeding dwc 3 of them are in white buckets but wrapped in gorilla tape then insulated with Mylar bubble wrap and one orange wrapped in gorilla tape and the other two are black like the rdwc set up. Back bucket are 3.5 where as the other colors are 5 gal.

As long as your white buckets are light proof you should be alright,but they are acceptable to algae
