Starving of water

I have watched several greenhouse seed co. Videos on growhd.tv and in almost all of their videos they say that they withhold water during weeks 2 and 5 of the flowering stage to encourage rapid flower growth. Has anyone experimented with this and what were your results?

I don't like those videos, though I've watched them all out of interest. Part of what bothers me is that they never explain a lot of detail...like what soil they use for the soil vs hydro comparisons. They always seem to grow from clone too, which is annoying for a seed company.

In normal soil grows it's fairly standard practice to let the soil dry out in between watering, so it isn't much of a stretch to just leave it a bit longer during those weeks. I'm currently in week two of flowering, and plan to see how long my girl can go without water to test this more thoroughly. I have a feeling it won't hurt, and will help get oxygen to the roots, but I don't expect it to really make a noticeable difference compared to what I normally do.

I have heard that letting them beg for water in the first two weeks of flower is to make the roots realy stretch out and grow looking for the moisture. I wait until the first two inches are dry and I can see a very slight crack between the end of the soil and the pot for this reason but only do it for a couple weeks into flower and then normal feeding. I cant see doing this at the end for any reason, did they offer one? Intresting for sure

That's a good possibility... I was personally thinking it would promote growth spurts cause a plant dying of thirst will over compensate by forcing more water/nutrient in the plants cells - but that is just my opinion and your reason is very plausible.

i have just seen some of the video's and do water my plant like the way they show on the videos but for different reasons

some time ago i tried in hydro and soil to see which one i liked best
and use the ph pen and ec wand in both grows

and found my grows was a lot better in soil so carried on using the ph pen and ec wand

tried letting the soil dry out more on some plants than others but seem to help much, but them came across a website that said as the soil drys out it increases the ec level (salt constant in the soil) so tried reducing the ec down to 1.0 from 1.5 and letting the soil dry a lot more till the leaves started to drop
water the plant and with in 30 mins the plant looked good again and by doing this the plants did not grow as quick as the others and roots grow a lot quicker than the others

so i ended up needing a little more veg time but had plants that where a lot more bushy and had bigger root mass intern a better yield as the plant had a bigger more even canopy
