State taking their time w/ paperwork.

My wife has been waiting for her patient card for 3 months and I have been waiting for my caregiver license for 2+ months. Does the wait seem unusual or standard? When my paperwork is finalized (hopefully soon) I'll be looking to accept patients from the Eastern, Maine coastal area of Washington County.

If your wife has her doctor certification, she is all set now. Registration with the state is optional for patients. Regarding your caregiver card, 2 months is not unusual for a wait, but I would give them a call anyway.

Also, you know you don't need to register as a caregiver (and pay the fee) if your wife (or parent/child/sibling/aunt/uncle/neice/nephew) is the patient, right? Registering is for providing meds to non-family members - unless the patient is your cousin, which requires registration.

Thanks for the prompt response folks. I'll call DHHS Monday and inquire.

... and I have been waiting for my caregiver license for 2+ months.
i have been patiently waiting for 3 weeks now , i seem to have bit more to go! they did cash the check however, so perhaps that is a good sign.

my only concern with a long wait is the issue date and how many days are 'lost' before i even receive the document.

I waited 2 years for my motorcycle title......maine
Damn that sucks sorry you guys have such a bad system l. Move to Massachusetts I got my card few months after law passed and its fairly easy to get. They also should have dispensaries up and running by end of year if not beginning of next year. When they were writing the law here theydidnt want ppl to suffer well all the kinks were worked out its in the law they have to have the systems in place within certain time frame unlike states like ct nj and so on. I hope things change for you guys.

It took about 3-4 weeks to get the Dr.'s cert. When I sent into the state, I asked for patient and caregiver card. Got both - quickly. The only reason I did was so I didn't have to carry the Dr.'s cert. on me. The state doesn't require a patient card ... I just wanted to keep everything "Kosher."

It took me three months to set up an appt. w/a PCP when I came to Maine 3 years ago.

In March-April 2013, it took 3 phone calls (including interviews), a fax, and some copies to get the certification~~I have no complaints.

it ended up taking 5 weeks , mailbox to mailbox , for me to get my cards. it seems i will be sending the renewal paperwork well ahead of time!

You picked a bad time to sign up. Between worker turnover in the program. a new law allowing employees who need a background check and the addition of PTSD as a qualifying condition, there is a lot of change happening in the system. Things should show down some by next year. I hope.
