Stems look welded on

While it does look cool, I'm wondering what the botanical term would be. I'm curious what causes it also, if anyone knows or could link some reading info to me. Thanks!

It's because when you cut the leaves below those nodes, they no longer have the support from them, so they start strengthening their bases to be able to support themselves.

Also similar to when you supercrop. When you supercrop and bend over the stem, it then naturally starts to form a knuckle at the bend to be able to support the rest of the branch as it grows.
