Stepped on hash,

so apparently there are companies infusing essential oils into their hash, seems like people were really into it, to me it seems like a lame attempt to put flavor back into a batch that is flavorless for whatever reason, while adding weight...so is weed being cut like a normal thing now?

yea it got called out last year some companies are adding terpenes from other sources that are the same as the ones in cannabis, their excuse is we boiled them off so its just putting what was lost back. I think they can also be recovered in a cold trap, don't quote me but I think that is where that all started someone found something in there cold trap along with water and I think a solvent and it was later identified has terpenes.

I find this subject debatable... During a dewaxing or winterizing techniques, terpenes are lost. But in the same sense the THC % goes up.
Extraction companies ( I would like to think ).. are trying to find the sweet spot. Having amazing flavor without compromising the THC % too much.

Just a thought.

I'm gonna have to get a cold trap and see how much is saved, iv thought about distilling a hydrosol to get the Essential oils, then doing a solvent extract, but if all you need is a cold trap....

Rob Clark has talked about distilling the left over hash water to remove the soluble terpenes from the water and infuse it back into the hash. Right now I think its more theory than application. Its in the works with the top hash makers. Infusing oils or terpenes from other places is just wrong.

When I was in HS, 15yrs ago, people didn't take High Times seriously. It absolutely amazes me people still continue to quote it. It's nothing more than a monthly advertisement.

I didn't feel like digging that much for an article and it has GW in it so at least some of the info is creditable lol

Tony Verzura and Horatio Delbert are both doing something similar to this. They been doing terp chasers after their dabs and stuff on youtube for a while. Also experimenting re implementing some terps into hash. He has also spoken on it and shows them in Hash Church.

I guess the difference here is that Tony and Horatio aren't infusing terps from other places but they are infusing terps from the very same strain.

Is there ethical question in doing this?

That's cool if it's from the plant I think, but if not and just oils you can buy online that's a problem?

I gotta agree with that.

Of course being at the forefront of the cannabis extraction industry they have yet to share their process with us. Not that I'm into solvent based extractions, but I don't even think Horatio has shared the process of his D-limonene extraction(LHO) with the public at this point. I could easily be wrong about this though.

From what I gather and the tidbits of information I have picked up I think they are both sacrificing pounds for these terps and/or somehow capturing terpenes that would otherwise be naturally lost during the lifecycle and growing/drying of the herb.

I like the idea of using terps from the hash water but not so much directly from the plant. Each round the terpene profile could be different due to several variables. Nutes, medium, brix levels, chop time, cure time, recessive traits, etc...

This is the video that got me thinkin about distilling the plant material, I think you would distill as soon as you chop then let the material dry so you can do your butane extract, then just mix the two extracts?
