i have done 2 grows, one with miracle grow and bat guano plus plain soil and the 2nd was with pro-mix and liquid nutrients...the first grow was great in terms of smokability, very tasty, but the 2nd was a complete disaster with the plants developing burn and me getting my allergies thru the roof due to the so-called organic liquids...

this time i have been advised to use just pro-mix with 20% worm castings, bat guano and seaweed extract...

the plants are just seedlings in this mix, about 5 days old...i'd like to keep it simple like the fella at the hydro store suggested,, but i can't help but thinking that i'm going to miss something down the road...

i'm using water that has been reverse osmosis filtered and the only feeding will be with bat guano once they get to flowering...

how does this sound...kiss principle...

i'd be curious what your 1st soil was, seems to have worked well
i'd say stick with what worked for you, maybe change a little bit at a time

the first grow started off with the seedlings in miracle grow...i had wanted to try and grow outdoors but the plants were getting disturbed by animals so i dug them up and placed them on my balcony, so a lot of just plain earth came with them...when they went into the pots, i used potting soil i got from the super market and throughout the grow i used camel joes bat guano...

pro mix and worm casting will prolly be as good as earth and potting soil with the guano and sea weed supplying the necessary micro nutrients...but i have been reading about dolomite to stabilize ph...

so i thought i'd just throw this out there to see what the experts say...the seeds were put into paper towels on mar 16 and now have their first set of leaves...

you will see many opinions on soil, you could consider mixing your own, depends on the circumstances
many start with composted cow manure as a base, peat moss very common ingredient
there are quite a few recipes floating around, simple mixes can work just fine
i use this simple mix MG Organic Garden soil + 10% perlite(or so)
to that 1 tbsp MG Organic Bone Meal(6-9-0) and 1 tbsp dolomite per gallon of soil
the only thing i will caution on MG Organic Garden is it does usually have fungus gnats(annoying mostly), i pasteurize the soil at 180 degrees to get rid of them

i now have organic sea soil, composted for 2 years made of fish and forest fine...

these are about 12 days from being put in soil...i have a 250w mh about 10" away...
