Stinky hydroponic nutrient-water mixture

I would be hesitant also. But there should be no organic material to go bad. Also I don't used advanced nutrients. Too expensive. Does that happen in your rez? If it smells like a nursery at Wal-Mart or Lowe's you should be fine just mix it up. But if it had gone BAD, you won't have a doubt. Stagnant water has a stank all its own.
I only mix what I'm adding at that time. A little inconvenient, yes, but no chance of a rez on nutes going bad.

Anything over 70°F for any amount of time can sprout harmful bacteria like pythium a.k.a. root rot.. unfortunately I’ve ran into that problem quite a few times so I’ve learned how to stay away from it now..... The butter zone is 64 to 68°F for your hydroponic nutrient reservoirs even though it’s in a sealed container the air itself is full of microbes in airborne bacteria and spores of fungus it’s not harmful unless it’s given her environment to activate and flourish and start creating colonies.... I run H2O2 at 3ml per gal and after flip I run 5ml per gal of 24% h2o2 and if I can’t find any of that I get the 34% and use 3ml....

I don’t like to have rez water last more than a 2 days ...2 is my cut off...... it’s OK if its 70-72f for a day but after that you have all that nutrient in there and that’s exactly what all the bad things eat... so not only are you giving them optimum temperature to thrive you’re giving them unlimited amount of food and no air to displace them and keep them from feeding and breeding as The added air bubbles acts as a weak oxidizing agent to the bacteria it doesn’t kill them or stop them completely it definitely slows them down I can tell you that....then add H202 which is also an oxidizer helps even more, again not guaranteed but it helps me stay root rot free for 2 days at a time..... A little long-winded I’m sorry but trust me you don’t want that shit I promise you. Do yourself a favor and get anything black that will hold enough water for you to be able to use..... anything that has even a little bit of light getting through will also power growth of bad shit you don’t want......

Thank you, everyone, for your useful comments. I am using the Cash Crop 6.0, 2 plant LED Hydroponices grow box from Dealzer. Dealzer supplied the nutrients. I am not smelling any foul odor from the mixture in the reservoir. I am using the aerator that came with the grow box to aerate the mixture in the reservoir. I change nutrients once a week, per Dealzer's instructions.

I am only getting the foul odor from the excess mixture in the sealed container, and was wondering whether the odor was indicative of the mixture being bad and not suitable for use in my reservoir.

What are the best nutrients to use for my grow box?

I use a 55 gal barrel filled to 50 gal so I can mix it up with my stick and not flood the floors lol but that’s a lot to mix, if you only need a few gal I’d say hands down go to a home improvement store and grab a brute can, the one with handles...they also should sel tops for them.... spray paint the out side black and get yourself a caster roller for it to sit on that way you don’t bust a nut hauling it around....I got tired of pushing and pulling 50gal of fuck you across the room lol

400+ pounds of water sliding across the floor?!? Wouldn't take long to sand a hole in the bottom from sliding. The floor dolley is an awesome idea if you're mixing that much.

It shouldn't stink. If it does dump it out. You need to aerate nutrient solutions if you're going to be keeping them around.

if you're doing dwc hydro, make a solution of 1 gram of pool shock to 1 gallon of water, then use one oz of that solution per gallon of water in your reservoir, it'll keep it sterile and keep your roots nice and white. refresh it every three days. a gallon of solution will sterilize 128 gallons of water. you can actually use that a little stronger, if you used a half a gallon per 50 gallon reservoir, it wouldn't hurt at all.

And...look into getting a big bag of Jack's 5-12-26, a bag of calcium nitrate (i like southern ag), and some epsom salts.
use 3.6 grams of jacks, 2.4 grams of calcium nitrate, and 1.2 grams of epsom salts per gallon. this is the formula the big boys use...it's not only a time proven formula, it's fucking dirt cheap. about a hundred bucks a year, unless you're growing a lot, and then it's still the cheapest way to go.
add .5 grams more epsom salts and about 1/4 teaspoon of monopotassium phosphate from the third week of flower to the sixth or seventh week, as a "bud booster" while they're swelling, then go back to the basic formula to finish up.
