So what I think you are saying is that the software that comes with the printer/scanner doesn't run on Ubuntu.... is that correct? Have you tried the HP site for the software that will run on Ubuntu?

Yah...I have it up but it says it won't run on ubuntu...but theres always a way

Check the HP site for the software written for Ubuntu for your printer/scanner (it's likely they don't have any written for it.)

I don't know anything about ubuntu so if it were me and there is no software for ubuntu, I'd reconfigure the machine to dual boot Ubuntu/XP

I use it for running apache, other than that I use Windows for software development.

you'll probably need to download the latest binaries (version) and extract them, then make the bootable cd/dvd ubuntu runs off the media not the hard drive...
