I hope that nobody thinks I started this thread so that I could find the magic bean to make millions and smoke all day. As I said before, I'm just curious what other people here do for a living, and perhaps take some of those jobs into consideration. I know that the work has to be done to get the money, and I don't mind that. All I expect from a job, is to make what the work I do is worth. That's why I'm looking for a new job... I hear Carabbas (sp?) pays 11/hr for runners... maybe I can work my way into the kitchen from there!

It's pretty cool that people are finding out that the know each other!

@medicalmaryjane I am a nerd as well, no specific skill set at the moment. Just PC troubleshooting, some scripting/programming, network setup, etc. But I am working on learning C just for fun. Perhaps I can turn that into a job some day. I have a friend in Switzerland who recently had a geothermal radiant heat system put in. He knows Delphi (a dialect of Object Pascal), coded a program to manage the heating system, and now the manufacturer is licensing it. $200 for the customer to purchase the license, $186 of that goes to my friend. He was just doing it for fun/convenience too!

Try for a factory job. They pay pretty decently, usually 10-14 an hour. They also need people to push pallets all day if you want to stay with the grocery thing

well im fortunate enough to live by one of the best hydroponic shops in the WORLD, brite ideas, and they re-sell massive... MASSIVE amounts of equipment. i even get tons of free shit because they know me on a first name basis. 1000w ballast with the reflector hood used are gonna run you about 250-3 apiece ..... i use 6. so ... your right a little over 2k. then you have the extraction fans, the co2 tanks, the timers, the oscilating fans, the MH bulbs, the HPS bulbs, the panda paper, the tarp, the pots(normally free) and then of course the seeds ..... ok so. a little more than 2k probably about 25-3 but still ... NOT REALLY alot to invest considering the return, and no i wouldnt pay anyone to trim id simply do it myself ? and keeping it a secret is a simple as not telling anyone, and using inline carbon filters ? simple. as. fuck.
How you going to SELL it without telling someone?

I take it you have experience?

I'm 99% sure that I'm going to pursue a career path as a cook, I like the atmosphere and I don't mind working my way up. It gives the profession a bit of honor where for the most part, none exists. It's sort of like being a pirate, or in a gang, except you only cut steaks.

I would like to keep this thread going though, it's cool to hear from all of you, and perhaps it will be beneficial to somebody who really has no clue. There are a lot of kids on this site after all, and I feel that kids these days don't receive adequate guidance when it comes to career choices. I know I didn't.

I'm not saying that this thread is supposed to be a reference for them, but college is pushed so hard these days. College is a very good option for many people, but there are people who just won't fit into that mold. I feel that they get left on the wayside because college acceptance rates are a huge deal to high schools. The administration at my older brother's high school (Quaker Valley in Pittsburgh) actually made a concerted effort to get rid of all the kids they didn't think would make it to college!

And now for something completely different:
Fucking trippy illusion -Thank you for tweeting it Mr. Polamalu!
