stopping intake fan with lights out?

Sound has never been a issue with my previous grows but now is a main concern.
Have a cheap set up this time, 80x80x120cm tent, cheap fans ect and i have timed my lights off so that noise is reduced at certain times but was wondering if it is ok to turn my intake fan off aswell? It would only be for 6hours and would kick back in with the lights...... note to self and anyone else ? Even if you lost all of your old equipment invest the money and do not buy cheap equipment because if you need to see it through it will make you paranoid as f@ck. :shock: :wall:

I'm running cheap fans right now. And yes. They are noisy.

I'm looking to get a proper 4" fan at some stage.

As for whether it's okay to switch off the fans. Short answer. Yes. Long answer. Depends how much heat is still in the grow space. And if they'll still get enough c02 in the dark period.

My understanding is the plants don't really need any co2 supplementation during their dark cycle. Am I incorrect in that?

You are correct sir!

OP, you could either plug your fan into the same timer as your lights (assuming it's a two outlet timer) or you can just get a temperature controller with a day/night function on it. The latter option is much more pricey than a simple timer, but it would shut your fan off both at night and any time things get below a certain temp. I actually had to do this because my single 600w tent was actually getting too cool during nights (55-60!) so I put the fan on a controller and all was well.

They stay quite warm at lights off, should only be about 10°c difference max otherwise they would be shocked and growth will slow right down, as for c02 i honestly do not know but there is only a 6h off period so i would have thought what is in the tent should do until then, i have 4 inch fans atm but the sound is shite, i should of known to just invest extra.. hope you manage to gwt your fans soon, thanks for the reply :)

Wrap it with loft insulation and tape it up .cuts the noise down massively. . Or as above . Try having a quiet word with it

Have your fans controlled with a thermostat - they will turn on when necessary.
I've done it like that for years & it works like a charm. They will automatically turn off after lights out when the temp gets to your set point.

You can build a box around your fan to reduce noise.

Go to the bedding and sheets section at Wal-Mart and get 1 or 2 one inch thick memory foam mattress toppers and line your tent to absorb sound.

Not running your fan at lights out can cause a problem. Terpenes (smell) are highest at night time. They build up if the fan is off. When the fan kicks on when the lights come back on the smell can over power your filter for a bit.

I would also worry about smell leaking out without the fan running. No fan, no scrubbing.

Run 24 7 if in flower else mold and mildew will be a probs the humidity highest at lights out I run veg fans same as lights flower 24 7

If you're just starting off and waiting for the seeds to germinate, should you leave the fan off?

Ye they need to be a little warmer so fan off will help the warmth I use a heater over night in my veg tent works great Id leave fans off bro
