Storage tote flood and drain reservoir for a 4x4 tent

Is there a common flood and drain storage tote people use for a 4x4 tent, or do actual reservoirs offer a better fit in the end. I'd like to use the maximum footprint I can and limit height to 12 or 14 inches.

i shape mine using wood then line it with pond liner. i make a drain hole and a tap at the bottom of the membrane but if you are worried to do that, you will need a pump that can suck the water from the bottom of your res

I use storage totes for my dtw reseviors, i love em. I'm sure anything "meant for hydro" is overpriced when its still the same thing anyway

All are valid statement s. However, nothing works as well as item designed for a specific use.
Make friends, rub elbows and seek out deals on proper products.
Botanicals f&d 4x8, table and res
MSRP 575.00
Get the black one instead of the Gucci white one
MSRP 450.00
Shop it hard locally 400.00 for all (that's what I paid for the white ones)

4x8 pushed out almost 1800 GM's. So, .20 cents a gram, one time, for some gear that works, lasts, stacks and is purpose designed

I love these from Home Depot - http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-Gal-Storage-Tote-in-Black-HDX27GONLINE-5/205978361
I use four of them for rezes in my F&D set up. They're super thick and strong, and cheap as hell. Only 14 inches high without the lid...

I loves those myself... I use the 27 gal ones u posted for my 4'x2' f&d table and they make a 55 gal that I use for my 4x4 table however the 55 is too tall for a tent imo and its sides start to open up n stretch when full of nutes/water... I use bungee cords to pull the sides together and I'm good... 1 inside the other would be mint, but too tall...

To the op I also agree purpose built items work best but my personal opinion would be to try to get the res outside the tent... it's always nice to be able to plumb as short a run as possible but it's also usually best to keep your res out side the lit area for heat saturation issues and possible light leaks...however the purpose built res would most likely make light leaks a non issue... but heat usually is no matter what... but also think about when u need to clean/drain/fill/check ph or ppm with a flood table above your res... in a tent it's not that easy...

Yeah, a plastic tub is a plastic tub. I've done extensive calculations, using complicated algorithms and sophisticated programs that I wrote myself, and have determined beyond the shadow of a doubt that the ones with $10 price tags stuck to the sides of them hold the exact same amount of water as the ones with $50 price tags.

For a 4x4 tent, I'm happy with an 18-gallon Rubbermaid tub. I could go with a 27, but 18 is sufficient, because I like to change the rez once a week anyway. With that, I get 2 or 3 feeding/waterings each day, and right around the time I get down to 5 gallons it's time to change it. I agree with those who recommend you keep it outside the tent. Every cubic inch of the space inside the tent is reserved for plants. Temperature and light control are in and of themselves more than enough reason to keep the rez outside the tent, but the ease of access when you need to top off or clean it out or whatever is an enormous advantage.
