Strange growth at top of cola

Experiencing something I've never seen before, so I thought I would run it by you guys, Something that almost looks like male plant parts has appeared at the top of my cola.
The plant is about 30% red hairs/pistils whichever term you prefer and suffered a minor nute problem at one point (early in veg phase) but it was quickly corrected only led to the discoloration of a couple of leaves.
Anyhow, I've never seen this growth before, almost like a bunch of upside down miniature bananas coming out of the top of the cola. No other sign of male parts or anything wrong with the plant. It's possible this is just a strain I'm not familiar with, the seed was donated by a friend.

...trichomes are not nearly as abundant as I am used to seeing either.

Anyhow, unable to provide a picture just thought this last minute development at the very end of the life span was rather odd.

Plant is pushing 5 months old now.
Grown in soil, with minimal interference/nutes added

I considered that it had gotten pollinated somehow, but I don't see any sign of seeds developing and I don't understand how a single female grown alone in a closet could get pollinated.

You could have a hermie on your hands. I would remove the pollen sacs before they open and seed the female buds. A photo would help.

I wish I could provide a picture, my only camera was recently stolen when someone broke the window on my truck and took both it and my cell phone that had a camera on it.

My first thought was hermie too, but it seems really odd it would develop this late in the game.
The plant has been sexually mature for nearly 2 months. I'm keeping a close eye on it, so far it's color isn't right to be sex organs, even though they somewhat resemble them in shape.

hermies can develop at any point during the grow, as little tommy says remove the sacs so it doesnt get pollinated, keep an eye out,and remove any more you find

I've pulled them off the top of the cola, didn't see anything that looked like pollen inside but I guess better safe than sorry. I may just do an early harvest, I've harvested this early before, potency suffers a bit but it's generally still viable.

Despite the low trichome coverage the test bud I just pulled was nice and sticky.

usually top colas are very near the lamp. So because of over heating they elongate(only in the top) in an attempt to find a coolest place and breath.
With a room temp at 24 C and with the 600Wlamp into aircooling tube, you can still have 27-28 C around the top buds(in a distance of 40-50cm from the lamp).

What i do is to hang the thermometer exactly below the lamp and measure temperature around the top buds.

the plant is probably very matured i take it?being that its almost 5 months old....sometimes when a plant stays flowering for too long it can start producing male genetics....i think i even read somewhere thats a way to produce fem seeds by letting a female plant flower really long..it starts producing male parts...then the pollen from these male parts produce fem seeds...but dont quote me on that....been a long ass time since i read that

i think i found the right article.........

RHODELISATION
This is the name the breeder Soma gave to the process by where a very mature female at the end of her life throws off a few pollen bananas. This resulting pollen is feminised, but as if it had been induced by old age rather than CS. This doesn't always happen, it takes a very long time for it to happen, it usually requires taking a female beyond her usual harvest window, and it doesn't result in much pollen at all, so it's very much hit-and-miss unfortunately.

I'm on cfl's the plant did get pretty cold a couple of times during the last cold snap, that closet is not well insulated.
The average temps are in the 74-78 degree range, the thermo is about 8 inches from the cola where I have it positioned.
There is some minor burning on the tip of a few leaves, but I'm used to that it's the price I pay for shoving so many cfl's so close to the plant.

I just increased the dark cycle another 2 hours to hurry her along, because yes, she's taking a lot longer than expected. I'm still seeing some clear trichomes though, and haven't found a single amber yet.
It's a hybrid, and given the shape and size of the leaves it would appear to lean more towards indica fatter thicker leaves, but it's growing like a sativa.
Honestly I think whatever strain this is has some sort of identity crisis, I can't say what strain it is, I do know the seed sat at my buddy's place for a good 5 months + before I started germinating and he can't remember what he ordered.
There were originally 3 seeds, this was the only one that made it past the sprout phase in viable condition.
It's a good 5 feet tall at this point if it got any larger I would have run out of room to keep the lights off of it.

The test bud was harsh because I fast dried it but the buzz was surprisingly good, so I'm thinking 3 more days of increased night then 24-48 hours in the dark and harvest at this point.
Even though the trichomes don't seem to agree right now.

Yeah, I have some of that too, but I'm used to that, it's actually a healthy sign in general, means the buds are getting fatter.
That's not what was coming out of the top of my cola though, it had no pistil(s) in it.

You should harvest your plant when the 2/3 of the pistils are red. Or when the thc glances have a red head (for this you need a simple microscope to check it).
Dont wait for all of the pistils to become red as soon as the CDB content will increase and THC will decrease----->this results to heavy stoning(sleepy) and not so much "high" because of the high cdb

Rasputin, yes, that's it exactly, only it was coming straight out the top of the cola actually pointing upwards, sure it's the same thing though.
Not used to seeing that on my plants.
Is it a strain thing?

Gangsta I'm using a mix of the two methods I actually have a little lit 100x microscope I got from radio shack for looking at the trichomes, was using my camera's macro mode until it got stolen recently.
I'm a bit more specific when I know what strain I'm dealing with.

Nanners buddy male flowers......sometimes appear in late flowering on certains strains.....or the appear anytime during flowering when a plants genetics have mutated....Herm
I read all that somewhere

So my plan for a quick shutdown and rushed harvest is probably my best bet of salvaging anything from this plant huh?

nah Bra!!!! It takes a month for seed to develop .... maybe just hack the cola if you are really concerned...
Its all gooood!
But if she`s done then ya...hack n smoke!

She's pretty far along this last stage of flowering is going slow though, I'm guessing it has something to do with the mixed hormones starting to go through her. I've still got a number of clear trichomes visible in most places and I'm aiming for mostly cloudy with maybe a amber here and there.
I've already jumped up the dark cycle another two hours. To try and send her along. I quit what little nutes I was using last week to start clearing her out, so she can be plucked at any time, I was just hoping for a bit more from this, since it was supposed to be 3 plants and wound up being just one.

I currently have no outside source for my herb, my income just doesn't support my habit right now, so I want to milk this one plant for as much as I can.

You dont need to cut the whole cola. Just chop the small male flowers that poped here and there and you will be ok (as sonn as you harvest the next 2 weeks).

I separated mine and it gets cut tomorrow, because I didn't want it to mess with the other 5 chronics I have staggered in my perpetual flower box.
