The easiest thing to find in CA right now is Blue Dream... rather than any kind of kush. You probably wouldn't even need your own cut to get an amount of it.
I can definitely pick BD out from the rest. Acrid is a perfect word to describe what makes it smell different from Blueberry, Big Blue, Blue Dream, Blue Moon Rocks, or True Blue.
I think the Blue Dream smells like White Rhino with a hint of what I can only call "blue" smelling. I mean, it's kinda like blueberries... sorta...
It's like how purple Popsicles taste "purple" rather than like grapes. Blue Dream tastes "blue" to me. Like new Blue Jeans and Blue Raspberry Tootsie pops. With that acrid, weedy, overtone.
Personally I'm so burned out on the stuff. I've been smoking it on and off for the last 2 years. Dealers tried to schlep it off on me as the best bud around, for a full 100 on a quarter. I laugh and tell them that if they paid top dollar for that shit then they should talk to their distro because they got ripped the fuck off. Cali is completely flooded with BD right now, so if you wanted to give it a go I'm sure you could find some. $1600/lb is a GOOD deal for BD right now... which is sad because it isn't bad stuff... but it is kinda atypical.
I find the high doesn't stick around. You can smoke it in the AM and get a great buzz. Let's say you go from 0 (not high) to 8 (really, pretty high). As you come down to 4 or 5 you can smoke it again, but it won't get you back to that 8. You kinda stick around the 6-7 range for the rest of the day. I can smoke 4 grams a day of the stuff without even thinking about it. Have to basically take a power nap to refresh before smoking it again or you're wasting it in a sense.
Personally, I think Banana Kush is going to be next great clone-only strain that gets spread around like wild fire. Give it two years. Then Blue Dream will be selling back at normal prices because so many people will give up on it by next season. I think we're going to see a lot more "White" genetics in the med scene over the next few years too. Seems like that's a strain that has been getting some work done recently. Overhauled and exploited just like the rest of them.
Personally I like the whole Reserva Privada scene that DNA Genetics is doing. Working as a collective under that Banner could have been a dangerous move but the growers that are making those beans are following all the rules and despite a lot of their stuff being F1 they have a good deal of stability. I grew these just on the side in a little impromptu cabinet with maybe 150w of CFL's. Didn't really show them any love, didn't do much special for them, but they just packed on weight until they were toppled over.

Their picture and mine match up pretty nicely. It has this kinda pink hue, with pink hairs, and that really just enhances the Cotton Kandy feeling you get from it.
The stuff will fuck you up too. Makes my girl say some STOOOPID shit sometimes. You just kinda forget where you are, who you are, and what you're doing. You just focus on that amazing soaring high.
