Strips vs cobs grow

Has anyone done it? I said strips have better distribution and a new guy says I'm splitting hairs. Maybe I am?

We know strips have better penetration. We know strips can be run lower, wasting less light on the walls.
But in the end, how much effect does it really have on a grow?

Do strips really have better penetration? It would make sense that a higher powered individual light would have better penetration and less spread than a strip. Granted a single cob would have hot center versus a strip. Is there some evidence to support this? I do run both.. cobs up top and strips as side lighting. Not trolling

I run Cobs, and to me, they are kickin ass, for little watts im using. I personally think, the plants enjoy the heat radiated from the light source, and Im not sure strips ( SMDs) cause they same heating effect that the plant likes. I like to get my leaf temp up to 84F,

Going to be an interesting thread tho, im just a fan of "beaming" light source, I was also a big fan of Mono-with optics, because I had great success with those to. I also build a Strip light rig, but used the $0.02 cent ebay strips, LOL.. Big fan of strips on side lighting, because you can get them closer. Id like to see some curved Strips.

Penetration doesn't come from light being so intense that it passes through a leaf and onto the one below. Penetration comes from well distributed light, the light comes at the plant from multiple angles, getting under those big shade leaves.

" Is there evidence to support this?" Sure, put a cob over a plant and look at the shadow and light lower down on the plant. Now put a strip light over the plant, the difference is obvious. The better the distribution, the better the penetration. It's all been covered extensively here in the LED section.

So run more cobs, obviously not as close as strips. Would i get better penetration then?

I have read the majority of threads here but thanks for the heads up.

These threads are a little silly really. I personally grow micro so i have 10 cxa 1507's up top with strips as side lighting. Obviously not going to produce a boatload with that. If efficient strips were available back then i may have gone that route. Either which way, the differences you and a multitude of other threads in the led section swear by really, result in little if any difference in actual weight at harvest time.

30 cobs over a 4x10 1500 watts,Vero29 80 CRI D series,6 drivers 240 1400mA 5 cobs per driver.
Super efficient,Bright as fuck, keep them about 18 inches up.
Sure, but these where grown with 23 wsf and although I'm still waiting for the dry they will more than likely be in the 2 gpw range.
At 37 wsf, with HPS I pull 1.2-1.4 gpw. So where is the efficacy of LEDs over the HPS.

GPW dont mean shiznit.GP kilowatt hour is everything.you could have vegged them plants for 2 months and got 4gpw that still dont mean nothing.im in rdwc and can easily veg for 8 weeks and pull a pound a plant but it would take me 4 months to do it.
There is no denying the science led puts out more micromoles per watt.thats a fact.not an assumption.not talking about cheap ass blurple LED here I'm talking about quality components.
You think I would spend 2300 dollars on cobs to cover up a 4x10 unless they knocked the dicks off my HPS?your crazy as hell.
