Stupid question about seedlings

How early in a plants life is it to stick to a strict light schedule? as luck would have it my mechanical timer broke right as my seeds sprouted and so I've been having to control the lights manually :(

Also, can anyone recommend a digital timer at a good cost??

Another thing, anyone know what's up with the seedling in the attached pic??

Don't need much light for a seedling. Use a low what CFL 24/7 and put in the windowsill during sunlight hours is what I do.

thanks mate, I have them in my tent under 500w MH (they arent bleaching, and they're loving it). I was just concerned the varying light schedule would stunt their growth or cause herms this early. They're so small they have their two serrated leaves and 2 regular leaves.

As for a timer.

I like this type from a home improvement store. It has 4 always on outlets and 4 timed. And it's got a built in surge protector.

The seedling looks kinda genetically not so perfect. It might be ok, guess you will have to wait and see.

I like that timer, a lot. I'll probably get it if it's less than $50.

Also, I was hoping that seedling was just looking that way because I didn't plant it deep enough. The strain is 707 Truthband

Also bud you can save some electricity if you get a pack of cfl's, a 4 pack at Walmart is only $10 and for it being a sprout you'd get away with only having to use 1-2 of them. 500w MH is over kill for that little sprout you've got there.

your plant is obviously stretching big time! your light is too far away. as mentioned, bury it some, and prop it up with something. some folks use a straw. cut it to size, slice the side open, and place it around the stem. a slight breeze will also help strengthen your stem. i like sentinel equipment. they make a very nice basic timer, for a good price.

put a fan on it to strengthen stem, ive found out w/ reg seeds i get a better female to male ratio using an 18/6 sced over 24/o plants determine their sex between the 2nd and 4th sets of true leaves..unless its a feminized seed then it doesnt matter, also a higher blue spectrum and a higher n level nutrient improve chances of females
