Stupid question time

Okay kiddies, time for some stupid questions. We're all family here so I feel comfortable enough to make a fool of myself in front of you guys.

1. Super thrive and Molasses. I use both because I've always read that they make a difference. I've used them for years. Does anyone know for sure if they work, or am I just giving my plants placebos?

2. I think I have a PH/dirt issue. Does anyone know if they put the PH level on bags of dirt? I can't get foxfarm, so does anyone have any suggestions for a good alternative? I have a walmart, a bimart and a D&B supply here in town to buy dirt at.

Thanks for any help you can give me:)

i only use superthrive for the seedling stage as i've read that it's pretty much only good at promoting root growth, not what you really want during flowering..
as for molasses, if you grow in soil, then yes, it can be beneficial by feeding the micro life in the soil which helps them break down nutrients better and faster i do believe..
hope that helps m8..

So, superthrive only in veg, not flower. Hmmm, I'll have to remember that. Thanks racer:)

The stuff at the local hydro store in bags soul i think they call it . Is not even PH correctly and consistantly . My friend went into the local store and got into an arguement with the people behind the counter over it and they started probing bags right then and there on the spot . All i'm saying is even if you buy the " good " stuff you still better check it . I'd look into the local forest products for organic soil . You can get it from about 30 bucks a yd and it's got good solids that break down over time and is every bit as good at the "Good " stuff at the hydro store . It's even a little sandy and drains well but you could add perlite or a diff product if you wanted faster drain i guess .

Thanks Zildjian, I know I've seen Black Gold at D&B. I'll give that a go. Must be better than the crap I picked up. I know better than to go cheap and now I'm paying for it. Haz, where do you buy that Roots Organic? I googled it, but only saw it on amazon, and I can't even imagine the shipping charges on a heavy ass bag of dirt;)

you don't even want to know lol.. i bought me friend two bags of dirt on amazon and sent it to her, fuck me, i spent over $100 on the two bags of dirt for her.. the one had free shipping, but i paid i think it was like $50 some for a $15 or so bag of soil, and the other one was only like $2o some, but again, like a $40 shipping or something like that..
but i'm just that type of friend, and i got it for her, lol.. but seriously, it's crazy expensive to ship dirt, you got that right.. :(

no pint in molasses if you not going 100 percent organic, if organic keep using it.
as for super thrive well, i would just quit it in all. it is to expensive for not knowing what the hell it is. ive seen it do more harm then good. super thrive should only be used to help root cuts if you need help, and to help with stress with transplanting, but if you trans plant correctly theri is no stress at al any way. after your bottle is gone i would not buy any more, better to use thrive alive or some thing that sates whats in it and isnt 30 bucks a bottle.

and yes most soil will come with ph listed, and most will be neutral at 7, and some soils will be made for acid loving plants so dont buy that.
i would also recommend black golds soils, they are cheap and work great.
also garden and bloom soil is nice to and it is also some what local

Yeah, it will be cost prohibitive to have it shipped. I pick it up at my local grow store. Both of the grow stores I go to have Roots Organic, and I would be surprised if a reputable store around you did not have it. Unless you HAVE to have it shipped, for some reason? Overall, I have used Roots since Day one, in some form or another, and I love it. Also, Subcool uses it as a major part of his organic "Super Soil".

If you are growing an organic run without synthetic ferts there is no need to PH,the soils microbes will actually balance themselves. If I'm buying soil I go with Harvest Moon first then Roots organic, HM washes the coco fibers removing unneeded salts and it is also a product of the Beaver state . Superthrive is a B1 heavy product designed to add micro nutes and combat stress,it works great when transplanting but if root growth and micro nutes are what your looking for might I suggest powdered myco(root growth) and an addition of glacial rock dust and or azamite (micro) to your soil. Molasses is a good product to use just make sure to use unsulphered. Best of luck on your grow and happy holidays everyone:lol:

For a bunch of stoners, you guys sure do know your stuff;) LOL. So, what I'm seeing here is no superthrive. Cool, I won't buy any more of that. Also, as I dig deeper into my reading, I have seen a common theme among PH problems, which is not using enough perlite. Now that I think about it, this was the first grow (I quit for 2 years) that I've done where I didn't use any perlite, besides the little that came in the dirt. Think I might remedy that one, because I see what looks to be a PH problem and I have never had that in the past. Thanks guys, great help all of you:)

I am a newbie, first grow. Maybe another stupid question so I put here. How late can you transplant. Thought I was doing great around 4 week of flower and plant in 2 gal pot has bottom leaves yellowing w/ black spots and stem is sorta red. mag/cal deficient? Flushed too much I think as ph was sooo acid. Have meter now and run off tested with aquarium stuff is still acid. Other plant in 3 gal and fine. Added bone meal, and molasses(1 Tbls. in gal.) Should I just wait or can I still transplant into larger pot with correct ph soil? Both have pretty little (1-2 inch buds). Have learned alot from these threads and am so thankful you guys are here. Also added a little lime before last watering.

Have grown veg garden outside and did ok but inside in pots is alot harder. What exactly is the PPM? meter and where do I get one. live in small town and could only find cheap ph meter $10 at lowes.

Mackey, I would just leave them alone. Since you're in flower already, I wouldn't transplant them. Try to nurse them back to health, but do it slowly and a little at a time. Since this is one plant, I don't think I would be too worried about it. I've noticed that some strains yellow and look ugly as they flower, while others not so much. Occasionally you get a plant that will just never be healthy, no matter what you do. Plants are like having kids: you can't always have a Michael Jordan. Sometimes you get one that rides the short bus. Good luck, bro:)

Ppm is parts per million, its the amount of desolved solids in the water. The tester is a good way to help you feed a plant and to know what your giving them. It's also a great tool for testing a plants nute needs and uptake at different stages of growth and flower. Amazon has a lot of good deals on that stuff and they deliver right to your door step.
