sunmaster 600w hps strobes on 600 and 660 setting

When my maxi bright dimmable ballast is set to 600 or 660 the bulb strobes badly. Really badly. Brand new ballasts, 2 new bulbs tested. Worked fine on an old 400w hps at 250, 400 and 440.

Is the ballast shot already or could there be an electricity supply issue? There's a long cable from there to here to there before the ballast plugs in.

Sounds like a bad ballast. My Solis tek strobes too but I have been too busy/lazy to send it back. I have 2 other ballasts and i tried switching them around and the Solis tek ballast always strobes; defective but useable somewhat.

I removed an unnecessary extention from the system abd it seemed to sort the strobing. That was a few days ago, and now it seems to be back. Is it possibly a case of poor/inconsistant power supply causing it?
A long extension is needed due to location of the tent

Try plugging in the ballast with the bulb attached directly at an outlet to rule out the distance / voltage drop.
