Sunrise/sunset feature

Does that actually make a difference compared to the light just kicking on or off with the timer? Or is it just a gimmick? Mostly just curious since I’m not really in the market for any new lights rn but I stay looking at them

I feel like this would have a beneficial effect on our plants. I have considered testing it manually myself but too lazy

I would also like to see a light that not just simulates sun rise and sun set but varies as the 'season' progresses. I would suspect someone somewhere tried this by now but I haven't read or seen anything about it.

That's the next frontier for matching mother nature indoors imo.

Maybe we could get more out of our grows if we didn't force 18/6 and 12/12 so rigidly on them?

May as well add moonlight too well we are at it eh?

I like when I’m not the only one who thinks something’s stupid. I suppose it might be helpful if you wanted to foliar feed/ipm spray at fake dawn while the lights still low. I do get grumpy if someone wakes me abruptly but I’m not a plant

Mammoth Lighting on Instagram tested using red at the end of the day, and it did nothing. But adding red for the full duration of the light period does.
Also I saw a program back in the 90s where Israel did a study on added Red. They infused a greenhouse with red, and one greenhouse had no red infused into the glass, or whatever they used for the greenhouse material. . But the red infused greenhouse produced plant teice as big as the one that had no infusion.
This was on either PBS, or Kentucky Educational Television.
All plants used in Israel were the same tissue cultured plants too. They got the flowers from Holland. 1000s of them. The red infused greenhouse had a dramatic increase in growth.

Sure.. I mean isn’t the point indoor to be trying to simulate their environment as best we can?
A lot of breeders and growers already use various lighting schedules different from 12/12..
I could see plants enjoying a more gentle sunrise/sunset effect, maybe the abrupt on/off does do some kind of stress that we could improve on for the plants..
we may see an entirely new set of expressions from plants..
I’ve also thought about adding in some cloudy/overcast days through the grow cycle..

maybe the plants will perform different if they are kept on their toes instead of guaranteed lighting schedule/light intensity? ‍

If you want sunrise/sunset/clouds/moon phases/thunderstorms/lighting synced to your long/lat- start a reef tank. Im not sure any of that stuff is necessary to run a reef tank either, but they sure do sell those fancy lighting controllers.

My personal pretty strong opinion is if you are growing cannabis inside, turn your lights on, then 12 hours later turn your lights off (If in flower). You can't go wrong.
