Super Cropping/LST

Hey Everybody,

It's my first time growing and I was thinking about getting LST done, but I wasn't sure how big the plant had to be. Mine is only 4 inches tall at 4 weeks. Would it be a good idea to start it, and if it is what method should I do?

At 4 inches tall 4 weeks into veg, you have other things to wonder than if you can super crop or lst. Like why is it so short? I hope it is at least bushy from topping or a real low wide plant. To answer though, as soon as the plant is big enough to start to bend over while keeping good airflow under it, start lst. Can technically start at first node, but airflow would be an issue. Most say to start anything around 5 nodes.

It's better to start early because stems harden up after a while. But when you start early you start gently, and always have a counter-tie to stop it uprooting, so one tie keeping the stem straight up to a certain point, another bending it over beyond that point. Also i'd just go with the flow and tie when you need to, but there's that method where you can basically keep tieing it across the rim of the pot and have a circle of bud

surprisingly, it does have 5 nodes.

Phew. Lol. What kinda grow and lighting if you don't mind saying? Four inches and 5 nodes is good. Gonna be a great candidate for some lst in that case. Not sure of your know how, but have you looked into scrog and topping?

you can start to bend or tie stems down when they are long and flexible. not 4 inches. more like 12. look at lst in other ppls grows and you'll get the idea.
i think with lst the key word is flexible. if it's not the stem might break and you will have a supercropped plant without even wanting one. props though for wanting to try out something difficult because most new growers are afraid to even trim their plants let alone bend or break a stem

This is my first grow, Bubba Kush, just one plant in a 1'x2'x5.5' cabinet. Grown in FFOC w/ FF Nutes. 4-23 Watt CFL, 6500 Color temp. I've done a couple weeks of LST research. I've only skimmed through ScoG and topping. Isn't ScoG a different method though, or am I mistaken? And I'm not too sure what topping is beside removing the main shoot. Sorry, I don't really know much. Like I said it's my first grow, but any input will be greatly appreciated.

In that size space, you can skip the scrog research, unless you just wanna learn. Stick with lst, remember color (lower kelvin) change when going to flowering. Let this first one be your learning curve. Get as much info beforehand, and you'll better yourself with the know how to handle an issue when it comes up. Tons of helpful info around and helpful ppl when needed too.
Four inches in four weeks is still kinda slow, but five nodes on four inches isn't to bad.

Sorry, I didn't catch this post. But I went ahead and tried "hooking" her down.



She's only been like that for a few minutes. Should I stop it and put her back to normal?

Thanks, and yup I got 6- 23 watt 2700k CFL's ready.

nah leave those ties in place it will promote side branching.props for at least being willing to try

It's only 4 inches tall though. would it be alright?

the stem looks pretty flexible to me. but the plant isn't that tall. there are only a few nodes so you will only get a few laterals that come fom the plant. if you wait another two weeks it will be taller and have more nodes and then if you tie it down it will produce more lateral bud sites. but if you don't untie it, it will still continue to grow and you must then tie those shoots down to produce more side branching and more bud sites. if it were mine i would have waited. but there was no harm done. it will still grow. the guy who said the stem will harden had a point. but if you don't put a fan on it it will stay limber longer and not harden off. even if it does it can be tied. it's incredibly agile

Thanks Danny, I actually decided to take out the hooks and let her grow a few more inches. I was thinking 9-10 inches. Sound good? Probably give it 3 or 4 more nodes to shoot out of.
