Super Lemon Haze

I figured I'd make a fresh thread for my SLH grow, since my 2nd grow has come and gone. If you're interested in the history of this plant, Kara (that's her name) you can find it in this thread.

If you want just want the quick facts:
SLH from seed
Coco/perlite mix
House & Garden nutrients and additives
2gallon smart pot
2x 105w CFL
1x 23w CFL
30" cabinet

She was vegged for about 5-7 weeks, and is currently 6 weeks into flower with at least 3-6 weeks left to ripen and fatten up. I've had my share of problems with her. There's a heat zone I haven't really addressed yet, so that's fried some fan leaves and curled others. I figure there's nothing I can do about it now, will have to fix it for the next go around :) It also looks like there's been some nutrient problems (like the purple veins and maybe needing more N since some of the lower leaves have turned yellow), but nothing too severe I don't think.

I love the lemony scent she exudes when you give her a squeeze! I just started feeding her the flower boosting additive, Bud XL so she should help her concentrate on bulking up :) Did I mention how good she smells?

Here's some current pics of her:

Thanks for the compliments!

She's been fickle, but she looks to be worth the effort. I can't wait to find out how she smokes eventually...the next 3-6 weeks plus drying and curing is going to feel like an eternity ;)

Heh @ Christmas tree....If that was my tree, I wouldn't need presents under it :bigjoint:

Update time!

Kara is coming along oh so nicely! She's starting to pack on the weight, she sways whenever I have to move her around, it's kind of hypnotic :) We're heading into the beginning of week 8 since her pistils first showed themselves, and I'm really starting to salivate whenever I open those cabinet doors. After doing some research I'm going to take the plant thru at least 10 weeks of flowering...and if I can hold out till 80 days or 12 weeks that would be super. I'm just not sure I can wait THAT long for it :) I can't wait to taste how this 2x Cannabis Cup winner smokes!

I'm starting to think about trying Boveda's 62% humidity packs for the cure...has anyone tried them yet and want to share their experiences?

Onto the bud pr0n!

Wow .. very frosty .. is she ready to harvest?
Thanks...yeh she's been frosty since the 3rd week of flowering! I was amazed at how early the trichs started showing up.

Being a sativa dominant strain she's not going to be ready for harvest for at LEAST 2 more weeks...more like 3-4 if I can hold out. (Her recommended flowering time is 9-12 weeks) I haven't even started to look at her trichromes under a microscope yet...cause I know once I start looking, I'm going to be looking every night and start debating with myself if I should go ahead and chop her :P So I'm trying to wait until week 10 to start peeking :)

Wow.

I'm pleasantly surprised when I checked her trichs today. I'd estimate 95% cloudy - 4% clear - 1% amber at the moment. That tells me I'm in the home stretch. These three pics are starting at the top of the plant and move down to different levels.

I can't wait :D

I'm going to let her go thru this week at least. That should get me to about the 10 week mark. I don't think I'll make it to 80 days or 12 weeks...she's looking pretty ripe now.

Since I was feeding her with a 12 week schedule in mind, I haven't gotten to use much of the BudXL. So I figure I can mix in some of it with the plain water I'm starting to use to finish her off. I can't wait to taste her after it cures...

This plant is just amazing! Last week I only gave her plain water with Bud XL added. This is now about the middle of week 9 of flowering. She's starting to dry out now, as the pot is getting very light. Once the whole plant dries out a bit, I will take her to the barber and chop it all down. Waiting the next 2-3 weeks is going to be killer, but I think it's going to be well worth it!

I plan on letting trimming off all the fan leaves, then letting the rest dry out for a week. Once its dry on the outside I will trim all the sugar leaves and jar up the buds for the cure. I will also use a Boveda 62% in each jar to regulate humidity to keep the jars in the curing range long term.

I also ordered some bubble bags, and I will use the dry ice method with all the sugar trim and popcorn :D And from the looks of it, this sugar trim is going to be loaded with trichromes! I'm also going to try mixing the kief into some butter so I can try making my own edibles, probably brownies. I've liked the "professional" edibles I've tried before so if I can make my own too, ooh buddy will that rock!

The promised time has come and gone! Now it's just a matter of waiting...

I chopped her down on the 5th. There were 16 branches and 1 big top. It took about 4 days for her to be dry enough to trim up and get her into some jars. The amount of sugar trim was more than I thought it would be. All of the smaller leaves are absolutely coated in trichs just like the bud is.

I bought some bubble bags, and I'm going to get some dry ice and see how much kief comes from all that sugar trim...I have high expectations trying this :) I'll probably even do it later tonight.

I'm using Boveda 62% packs in the jars and they work as advertised for sure! I'm using a small sample in my current stash, and using the medium sized packs in this harvest. There hasn't been a hint of moisture accumulating on the inside walls at all.

I've only sampled a tiny bit, a missed snip that cut off a small nugget when I was chopping it down. It was ready to smoke around day 3 of drying i think. For a fresh harvested nugg it didn't taste too green. I trimmed off the small leaves and then chopped up the tiny bud. It was just enough for one bowl. Even for a fresh nugg, it didn't taste too green. I didn't get much lemon yet, but I figure that doesn't come until a couple of weeks into the cure.

Of course I know I could've done better still, but hey I'm still learning this is only my 3rd harvest. The lower part of the plant could've had better light coverage for sure, so I'll be tweaking that again before the next one goes in the cabinet :)

I weighed it out tonight and was impressed with the tally. 108g total! Just 4 grams shy of a QP.

I can't wait till this SLH cures longer, and find out what kind of stone this A+, top shelf is capable of! I'll update one last time after a week or 2 and the cure has time to do it's thing...also for the dry ice kief :D

wow no comments....ummm ok.

Well I made dry ice kief with the sugar trim, and holy shit! I can't wait to do that with the next grow! It's sooo simple and the results are amazing! I had about a 1Q bag full of heavy sugar trim and that gave me at least 4g of high quality kief!

I took 3g of it, and melted it into some butter and made brownies :D They're quite tasty and the buzz lasts a good 4-5hours.

The rest I'll smoke traditionally :D

As for the cure, it's going along nicely! It's only been about a week so far. The Boveda packs have done their job perfectly! Inside the jars the buds are slightly moist while curing away. I've taken a couple buds and let them dry outside the jar a couple days and whoooeee. Some sticky icky surprisingly mellow smoke! I can't believe how covered in trichs this bud is... The jars smell very melon-y at this stage. The lemon hasn't really come thru yet, but I hear that takes about 3 weeks of curing to manifest.

Grand total: 108g of Super Lemon Haze bud and 4g of kief!

Definitely recommend this to any grower, and will grow again for sure!
