I have always used seeds and I think its time to learn how to clone. Has anyone here used super-thrive for cloning? That is what the hydro store guy said he uses.:idea:

Do I use my GH nutes on the freshly cut clone or just fresh water? :wall:

Should I use my rapid-rooters or FF soil? :dunce:

I have super thrive and i put a few drops in my spray bottle but i dont soak rockwool with it or anything. You should get some clonex rooting gel if your serious about it, the little black bottle will literally last you hundreds of clones.

Dont bother taking little mini clones they never root for me... take cuts from the bottom not top. The easiest and most productive way you could make your clones especially for the first time is to use 2 inch rockwool cubes,they're cheap.
Take your cuts from the bottom then immediately put it in water and make another cut at a 45 degree angle about an inch up, this is so no air goes up the stem which makes rooting impossible or take forever. Dont take little mini clones, i do at least 6 inches because 1 inch at least is going to be in the cube. Soak the cubes in water that has a ph of 5.5 this is essential, Do it for about an hour-24 hours doesn't matter at all. You do want to add nutrients to the water while you soak the cube, mix the recommend dose for cuttings and seedling on the back of the bottles,once the roots develop they then use the nutrients and that's how you successfully can clone.

Also if you don't use a humidity dome and the tray that it goes with your wasting your time. No need for a heat pad though.
 
def. true you have to cut the branch off then in a bowl of water cut the bottom of the stem like u would a rose and optionally you can also kinda skin the bottom half inch of the new plant and then dip in cloning powder (make sure to pour what you will use out of container to stop spread of possible contaminates) and stick nice and deep in dirt put all clones in a ten gallon fish tank with low light (same idea as a humidity dome) and you should see roots in a week...use clear cups and the dirt should be moist at the beggining very little water needed until they are rooted but dont let em dry out...personally i dont put any nutrients as i use dirt and just find that using a good soil mix is good until they are rooted...now as far as the superthrive - i stay away from it...never saw any type of advantage so if its not broke dont fix it
 
super thrive is amazing for clone's. especially for stubborn strains that either don't take or take a long time to root....
 
I use it in my bubble cloner. Might help a little. When the cloner is working good plain water is all that's needed.
 
w/o clonex not that good idea , you could at least a rooting compound from like home depot or any nursery... clones just helps a lot....

If I'm not mistaken, Super thrive can't be used to clone (like a cloning gel or something) plants but it can be used to reduce clone and transplant stress/shock
 
I'm telling you man superthrive IS NOT a rooting compound whatsoever, it wont help them root. The stuff thats going to be doing the magic is the clonex, the guy at the hydro store just works there it doesn't make him a genius or anything.
 
How do you know it doesn't help? It sure don't seem to hurt at all. You hear the same for plants. I've never once used clonex but I do use superthrive. I have a pretty good return and getting better.
 
i think superthrive helps..100% succses on my clones. i cut them dip them in clonex root gel,soak pucks in a solution of a drop of superthrive,drop of peroxcide,and a drop of clonex seedling &clone nutrient. then in a clone box and mist them with a lite mix of superthrive and that clonex nutrient. 100%succsess i swear
 
just use the cloning solution

i dnt like the gel.

i have tried just plain water takes ages.

but each to there own some things work for some ppl an some dnt.
 
yeah i use them peat pellets with seedlings roots dnt have a problem getting through the mesh i plant then in pots an dnt touch the mesh
and they do fine.
 
ok so concensus seems to be....didnt notice it help much, didnt notice it hurt....but its not a rooting hormone....plant without roots isnt going to use it anyway would it? i stick to my original decision it really doesnt have a good or bad effect better off just using rooting powder and leaving it out imo ....pay attention to the cloning process instead make sure to cut your clones under water and be clean thats the best bet!
 
I use root powder, an Cytokiniten (Bondie tomato bloom set spray).
Kenitin is a hormone used to keep cells alive longer, they use it in labs for tissue cultures.
I also split 1/4 inch of the stem with a razor blade.
 
Superthrive does work for cloning!. I am an extreme newbie. But i tried cloning with a tiny bit of superthrive in an old beer can rotted the heck out of the poor thing. Tried again taking a 12 oz water bottle cut the top third off inverted it. Added 5 oz of water and a few drops of super thrive and a drop of molassas. i put a cup over the cutting for a few days spritzing with pee and water for a week.. Then soaked a cup of fresh miricle gro soil and placed the rootless cutting in it . I was thinking another failure, but low and behold......... The "Juggernaut" lives.. She has taken foot AND root and is 3 ft now 2 months into veg.
The clone ,She was taken 6 weeks into flower, and now 2 months later full flower mode.

I did everything wrong" according to the internet" I over fert , over water, low light, light leaks, timers not tripping on time. Super flushing due to neute lockout and still got 2.41 oz of silly sticky.
So yes superthrive works aswell as taking a clone during flower.
 
I tested Superthrive for cloning once against a control using mild nutrient solution. Superthrive is nothing but a marketing gimmick. If you haven't done a controlled experiment with it, you can't claim otherwise. A tray with humidity dome, pre-soaked 1.5" rockwool cubes (1/4 strength nutrient solution or less), re-work the rockwool holes a little bit, 100% success.
 
Agree with blue super thrive is 100 percent unnecessary and useless..eagles fan admits to being an extreme noob and should really not be answering peoples questions especially since this thread is two years old and long dead...eagles fan the super thrive did not help you the clone would have survived with or without it
 
Don't worry about nutes until the clones have been in dirt for 2 weeks. Here's a couple practical suggestions that helped me develop a successful cloning operation. Wait until the clone mom is 6-7 weeks old before you take clones from her. Try to take cuttings that are large enough to have a small hole running through the stem. That hole means the clone can uptake water fast and is a good candidate to root. Use the larger 2-inch Jiffy pellets. Better suited for larger clones. Larger clones = more greenery = better chance of rooting. Keep the humidity at 100% in your dome. Make sure you keep a 1/2 inch or so of standing water in the dome. Essential to keep the RH at 100%. Use a spray bottle and mist the clone leaves 3-4 times a day. Don't let the pellets get too soggy. Biggest cause of non- or slow-rooting clones is that the pellets are too wet. If the pellet is too wet they won't need to grow roots to reach water. I dip my pellets after 3-4 days in the dome. Only dip once before rooting. If you see roots for the first time on day 1, transplant into dirt by end of day 3. Exposed wet roots will rot sometimes. Good luck, BigSteve.
