i have a really old hps in my 600w hood, i was wondering if i switched from the red spectrum of the HPS to the Blue of the MH if it would stress my plant. this light is really old and can barely even make it through my plants to the soil. Should i switch or just finish my last week or two with my MH? +rep for some help/ expert advice.

blue spectrum but.............
any light is better than no light. no light means death.
as long as you stick to a strict 12/12 hour flowering then ok.
the problem with halide is it is a veg light that causes stretching in plants.
but......... so does the dark as they search for light.
and that is the problem, 12 hours of stretching dark, and 12 hours of stretching blue light.
keep the lamp as close as possible to the plants without burning them.
better still get some flourescent low wattage lamps to run alongside as close as possible to stop stretching.
remember it is the 12/12 hour light that is making the plant flower and not the lamp itself, you are copying the change in the season,
the different position, distance, spectrum and time the sun is in the sky revolving around nature.

i definitely think its gonna be much better, just switched the light and much much brighter! i can actually see light on my hand at soil level. so hopefully it wont make my buds fluffy, but if it does thats fine. Its already got most of its bulk already anyway

so you reckon there is more thc with halide at the end of the cycle during the last 2-3 weeks, i am going to try this right now.
no.
the MH lamp produces more UVB, which, current studies and theories suggest, increases resin head (trichomes) production, which in turn, raises THC content.

a trichome, is a natural sunblocker... stimulate them by hitting them with increased UVB wavelenghts, and the plant will produce more/bigger trichs.

MH will not make your plants 'stretch' that late into the flower cycle... the stretch is usually over by the 5th week, unless your running a sativa dominant hybrid or landrace.
sativas never stop flowering, they will flower for as long as you let them, its why they get so massive in the wild, they just grow untill frost kills them.
