I am ready to switch to 12 / 12 and wonder would it be better to use the darkness of night as the biggest part of the 12 ? and lights on during the day? figure it would be dark out any way. I grow in a home made grow area inside another building. Would lights on at night be better ?

People will often run lights at night if there is an issue with high temperatures during the daytime. Otherwise I think running lights during times when you will be servicing your plants makes it easier on you.

I was thinking that since I get home around 5 pm I could do my gardening just before lights out if I went 6 am to 6 pm lights on. I live in the mid Willamette valley of Oregon so temps are okay..... it seems to be harvest season here for the guys that grow outside. I have 4 clones off of the plants so I need to move them to another area so they keep getting 24 hours light.
So far the 300 watt LED seems to be doing the job.

temps are not as issue with me so I run 12/12 from 8 am to 8 pm.....like someone said above if temps are not an issue, and people seeing lights on in your shed all night is not a issue then you should run light cycle when your around and let them be dark when you are at work imo..this way if you get bored and want to go smoke one with your plants at 11 pm you can. I enjoy sitting with my plants sometimes at night, its relaxing and gives me time to look them over for any possible issues.
