Synthetic weed

A friend of mine owned me 0.4g of weed and he gave me this stuff. I have seen it is low quality and I already kicked his ass for it, but this is a period of dryness in my area. Anyway now that I look at it better I'm having doubts whether it is real or synthetic weed, as I have read that usually synthetic weed is in form of ground up organics. Moreover the smell is a bit off, but I wouldn't describe it as chemical. Can anyone help me with this, as I don't have much experience with marijuana? Thanks everyone.
