So what is the scoop on the 54watt t5 highoutput 6500K?(5,000lumens each)
-Full spectrum lighting, good for vege and flowering?
there has to be some advantages to these, maybe the full spectrum lighting plus the advantage of having the lights withing 2inches from the foliage.

in a well ventilated well reflective(mylar) area how would these work.
also how much will adding 2700K CFL's in the mix help?

please comment back kind of in a time crunch

I've got 2, 4 foot 8 bulb T5's in my 4' X 8' flower room. They do pretty good but I don't think they are as good as hps despite all the hype. And they do still get pretty warm. I'm in the process of buying a 1000watt hps and move the T5's to my veg room. I've been getting about 3 ounces dried and cured off of my 3 to 4 foot plants.

Using T5's for the first time this go and my conclusion is T5's may be better for SoG smaller clones while HPS is the king of larger plants indoors .

Hell , with a small basic closet you could grow 4 shelves worth of clones on top of each other and get tons more than a HPS in there . Big room with bigger plants and the T5's just don't have the penetration .

It all depends on your situation .

i have 1.5-2 footers flowering under a t5 right now. Does great, so far no big diff from hps, i do plan on moving them to hps after 4 weeks though just because as mentioned it does have the un-rivaled penetration. Ive been using these on my mothers for ever though and they work great for that, have lots of coverage and dont require all of the cooling rigs you might otherwise need to prevent burning your tops. They are much too strong for cloning, been their, tried that.

From what I have read, it seems that T5 may be better suited for clones and veg cycle with HPS used for flower. This is what I am considering for my upcoming medical grow.

honost warning about cloning with t5s. its too much, an entire cloning tray will do much better under a 20 watter or a cfl.

What about fluorescent lights? What is "T5"?
In the past, fluorescent lamps were typically not a good choice for lighting indoor gardens. Today, with improvements in technology and increases in light output, fluorescent lamps may be successfully used for growing indoors. The introduction of the T5 H.O. (high output) lamp has proven to be a lamp nearly rivaling (and in some ways surpassing) MH lamp technology. (NOTE, do not confuse T5 H.O. lamps with "standard" T5 lamps, as the latter are too low in light output and efficiency to be considered for indoor gardening). Generally, a T5HO fixture may be placed closer to an indoor garden because the heat produced by the lamp is spread throughout a longer tube than HID lamps. For example, a 250 watt MH lamp has a lumen output of 28,000 lumens, while a 4 lamp, 4' T5 HO fixture has a lumen output of 20,000 lumens; however the heat output of the T5 is spread evenly throughout nearly 16' of fluorescent tubes, while the MH lamp has the heat concentrated in a tube less than 1' long. Therefore, in typical use, the T5HO fixture could be placed within a few inches of the garden, while the MH fixture might have to be placed 1 or 2 feet way. The closer placement of the T5 fixture would allow for increased light intensity for this garden. Typically these fixtures are used mostly for smaller sized gardens or seed starting applications.
