T5 Light Setup Help Please

Hyroot was challenged to provide links to a 1 lb grow under LED's, with actual proof, not just somebody making claims of superior harvests, that was 2 months ago, were still waiting.

hyroot is also a member of LED United, if you look the group was started several years ago, with bragging that people were going to show their huge LED Grows and they even have beautiful pictures of beautifully started plants.... And then, nothing....

We want PROOF, NOT MORE BULLSHIT!
you are talking out your ass. I provided links in the 2nd post I made in this thread. On the 2nd page. What the hell is led united? There hundreds of completed threads.

I WON't apologize, I'll say it, how it is, LED's have their place, and space, they are an option... If you can afford spening 800 bucks on an iffy light system.

There are other cheaper, far better and PROVEN available options.

Yeah unfortunately though that's way out of my budget for now, I have spent close to £2000 on paying the bond/deposit on the new house with the overlap of having to pay 2 x rents for a month

For the led panels its (240.00 USD = 143.45 GBP) if you times that by 2 its almost £300 just for lights if you add onto that the cost of the tent /extractor its blown my budget to shit id be looking at around £500 to get started which i just cant afford right now

Yes I'll be paying more for electricity to use a hid which is why I'm gunna grab a dimmable one it should also help a little bill wise at the start of the veg period.

Also after thinking about it if something terrible happens in the couple of months i'm vegging before i buy the second tent i can use the veg tent for the entire grow

If money wasn't so tight at the minute i'd be willing to spend the extra for the leds there is cheaper ones but again i don't know enough about them to make that judgement call,

I did notice off your post that you have radiators in your tent so for future reference is there also an issue with maintaining heat in the tent from the leds? If there is then the savings id be making electricity wise would be lost on using a radiator to maintain temperature :(

I don't have a tent nor radiators. I have a room. Led's run very cool. Induction runs a little warmer. If its very cold there you might need a heater. If you go hid. I suggest using a Philips allstart 330 CMH with a 400w magnetic mh or switchable ballast. The 330 runs as cool as 250 hps. Matches a 600w in yield but produces far better quality. CMH last 2-3 times longer than hps because it uses a ceramic arc unlike hps which uses an aluminum arc. The CMH has 1360 umoles at 16 inches away and a cri of 90. The whole setup will run less than 200£ cover the area you need.

You can even build a cob led panel for less too. There's DIY thread stickies in the led section and other DIY threads that help. Supra is the man when it comes to DIY led . He helps everyone

It's just making shit far more complicated and much more expensive than needs to be and much of the science and expert opinion and design on these lights are still not available. I remember when folks were usng 8 foot Flo's to grow back in the 70's, and when Hids came out, they took off like wild fire.... Then the 80's came around with indoor hydro that was knocking peoples socks off...

If LED's were that great, there would be no question and everyone would be using them. Like folks did with HIDs in the 80's. You wouldn't need a salesman to sell them to you. You'd know exactly what you need. A 600w hps is a 600 w HPS..

Imagine having to change out 3000 little tiny bulbs when needed??? Fuhgetaboutit...

You can use the same logic against hps. Its a friggin street light. Not even designed for horticulture. Has a horrible spectrum. Low cri and starts degrading after 6 months at 10% per month.. That sounds like a great light.. $1000 in bulbs over 10 years and and $700 more in electricity a year... Lower quality bleached buds..

I spend $1500 on a light that lasts 10 years and save $5000 over 10 years. Hmmm and denser and frostier buds with 3%-5% higher thc

Now days they are bigger and less. Not even close to 3000.

Thanks for talking again guys. I'm going to bed.

OK one more. The bleached buds got me rolling. That was a low blow. Lol.

Unfortunately i need a tent growing weed isn't legal here and any smell/signs of growing there's a high risk someones gunna report it and I get police or something even worse coming through my door :(

So i need a stealth grow which includes no/very little escaping smells

In the UK especially where i am high up it can get really cold at this time of year so it would probably negate the electricity saving costs, the property is an old stone property and the grow is in the cellar which isn't a used room or have any radiators in it which is a shame lol

Will the 330 CMH be enough for 6 - 8 plants?

I presume 330 CMH is 330 watts?

so i can work out electricity costs also could i use it for flowering?

The flower tent i was looking at would be (2 x 2 x 2) so i could use 2 of those and spread the light through all the tent for almost the same wattage as a single 600w bulb?

cheers for the help :)

Thats precisely what LED is good for levi, they have their own niche. Absolutely I will agree.

I can't wait til someone gets the idea to make flexible grow lights so you can wrap them directly on the plant. Like flexible strip lighting.

yes on the CMH. Also add Astro foil. Its reflective insulation. Help keep the warmth in. Cheap on amazon. The 330 ran about 350 watts. It can cover a 4x4. Best at 3x3. They also make an allstart 205 that runs on 250w mh or switchable magnectic ballast. Also you don't vent cmh. It has a quartz crystal coating and open reflector rated. So you can use the cheap open reflectors. No glass. Plus glass blocks out UV which you don't want.

yeah sorry forgot you Americans use feet as measurements being backwards like that :)

veg tent is 1 m (w) x 1 m (d) x 2 m (h) i can possibly stretch to a 1.2 but i don't move in till friday so i haven't done exact measurements yet

flower tent will be 2m x 2m x 2m to allow 6 - 8 plants to grow effectively

will this setup still work on these measurements?

Lol, go to hyroot's profile, 5th group he's in.... LED United, but, he says he has no idea what i'm talkng about, and the 2nd link on the second page of a previous thread was called for bullshit, not only by me, but several others as well.

On top of that, induction lighting is NOT LED, but, you seem to like to interchange them in an effort to promote the virtues of LED.

first not one person called bullshit on that thread. you are full of shit and you know it. Actually there was quite alot of big buds. And alof of people complementing the grow. I guess you like to create drama. Fucking trolls.

I joined those groups years ago and haven't even been on it in years. Never posted once.. What's wrong with groups. I use induction and led. I have 2 inda Gro 420 1 inda gro vpar and all 3 have add on pfr led pontoons with 660nm deep red leds and 730nm IR leds the 730 run for 5 min after lights off to mimic sunset and run off a battery. I also have area 51 sgs 160 led panel.

you like being a troll or what? Constant arguing and shit talking. Do you need a hug? Or you are you determined to be a hater? What am I pushing. I suggested 3 different led companies, 5 different t5 bulb companies. And CMH..

yes 1 330 for veg and then you can even run 4 CMH in flower. You could run 2 CMH and do them in a vertical scrog, no hood. Get a better yield. Check whodats thread in the vert section for ideas on vert. When I used to run CMH before place was robbed. I ran them overhead the first batch then switched to vert and got much better results. Where lower buds were same size as top buds.

Bro I'm not sure exactly what your params/price points need to be but check out most T5 fixtures and maybe cop a 4x54W or 6x54 for under $150 USD...it will light enough for like a 1.5M x .5M area ... I'd get one with bulbs, and yeah even a high K 6500K will still work
(if you want a more quality fixture = more output, look into Tek by Sunlight supply or even a ATI fixture; expect to pay $$$)

...I've already seen bud pulled under one, like dude said earlier, it won't make rock hard nugs but its hardly a waste of time either
I'm thinking 3 plants = 4-6 zips

...as far as heat goes; I think the T5 = less heat thing is partial myth (again, somewhat); not much less total heat than a 250W, its just spread out more

Hi johnny for the heat thing I was looking at the leds as they run cooler than T5s so in the area i'm thinking I don't think they would be suitable, The saving I would make on electricity using those I would have to spend to keep the tent at the correct temperature is what i was thinking especially considering the initial outlay for them

  • 6x54 for under $150 USD...it will light enough for like a 1.5M x .5M area ... I'd get one with bulbs, and yeah even a high K 6500K will still work

with the T5 not sure if that was a typo for size of tent? The light might work for them but if i'm using 300 watts anyway then maybe the suggested 330 CMH would do better lumen wise?

I was looking at having to use a 600w hid however if the 330 does what hyroot says it does i can eliminate that problem for only like 50 watts more and less cost bulb wise

The only issue i had with the T5 was lumen per plant and the reports of light not reaching the plants further down which obviously means having to use more tubes and then more cost?
