T5 = tight nodes?

I have 6 strains 9 days into sprout under a 2ft 4 bulb T5. I have a 600W MH/HPS hood and ballast ready to go, but I'm seeing really squat plants right now with very little stretch. Is this just because it's soon early on, or is having the T5 only a couple inches away helping with that plant structure? If it's the light, I'm tempted to hold off longer than I planned on switching to the MH, since I really only have about 4 ft of verticle space in my tent.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Flourescent lights usually give smaller stretch because they are close. Mine grow like that as well but after I see its out of the seedling stage I repot and put em on 600 watts. Then I go to 1k for flowering.

Do I understand correctly the light is 2 foot from the canopy?

It should stretch at that distance. 9days is still within stretch. Maybe the strain is a midget?

I've been using T5's for some time now and it seemed that all the grows I've had, the plants stay short and bushy, I'm sure it's cause you can keep the light nice and close, 2" to 3", of course it could also be the strain, but of the 4 strains I've grown so far they all were short and bushy, I'm also using a 2ft, 4 bulb T5, I also flower by changing the bulbs to 3000K's and have decent harvest, yes they stretch once put on 12/12 but only to an average of 2 ft, I also LST them so that helps to keep them short.

Thought I'd add a few picks to show what I'm saying, these are White Widows three weeks veg, I plan to flower after four weeks.

Thanks for the words of experience DT. So many variables to account for as a newbie, I'm just trying to see if folks who've walked the path ahead of me can keep me from stepping on land mines. Really appreciate the advice.

21 days from sprout or germ? Either way, those look awesome!
Believe it or not, they are 23 days from sprout, they popped 3 to 4 days after planting, it's the first time I've had seeds pop so fast, usually it takes 5 to 6 days, the light is a T5, four bulb with two 6500K and 2 3000K bulbs, wanted to see how they come out with a mixed spectrum, it's my first time trying it that way.
