I would definite go with 2700k plant and aquarium bulbs instead of the hps. I am using a 150w hps and those bulbs and the bud sites under the aquarium bulb is so much better, despite my noobness. These bulbs (they are pink btw) can be found at home depot for 10 bucks a pop, worth the clams. BIG ADVOCATE! GL!

LUMATEK 600-400 WATT ELECTRONIC BALLAST
Virtual Sun VSGC6000 6" Grow Light Lamp Enclosed Reflector Hood -1000W 600W 400W
LUMATEK 600W HIGH-PAR OUTPUT HPS GROW BULB LAMP

Any other suggestions?

8 months and My capacitor or Ignitor Burned out on My HTG Ballast
I Wouldnt Buy anything from them ever again. Their gaurantee is shipping at your cost. Cheaper just to buy a new capacitor than to ship

What else do you need? I would recommend a 400 cfm inline fan with a dimmer - you only need ~ 150cfm but a 400 cfm fan running on a dimmer is much quieter than a 200cfm fan running full blast. You can google dimmer extension cords for cheap fan dimmers instead of paying more for a "fan speed controller". Personally I would check local Craigslist for fans as you can often find them for super cheap. I would also suggest a carbon filter. I've had good results with active air filters which can be found for pretty cheap online and locally in my case.

I have one of their 1kW digital greenhouse ballasts and I thought it was great till I got my lumatek. No comparison the HTG runs hot, LOUD (hum, fan noise, and case clacking), and doesn't seem to be as bright. My Lumatek is silent, much much cooler, brighter, and did I mention silent and cooler?
