T8 vs T5 lights

not quite sure actually. i believe its the diameter of the bulbs, which has something to do with light output. but yes, u can grow under t8's

t5 bulbs are much more thinner compared to a standard t8 bulb .yes you can grow with the t8 bulbs. they work great for clones and mother plants before they go into the 1000 watt hps flowering room .the fluorescent lights will save you a few bucks on the electric bill. good luck

save you a bunch on the electric bill....hell my t5 is on 24/7 and it prolly costs about 5-10 bucks a month...its awsome..!!

i wanna try to flower with it just to goof around but the damn bulbs are 50 bucks for 4 and my t5 has 8 bulbs..!!

i use a t8 set up for my clones one bulb is 6500 k and the other 5000k the bulbs are made by ecolux one is called a chroma 50 and the other is the f40 should be able to find them at lowes while your there get a shop light to run these bulbs should be under 10 dollars...good luck on your grow

I would say that light is running you closer to $30 a month to run 24/7 but that is not why I posted. Here are some plants I flowered with T5. I actually put the T5 back in the tent today. It is way easier to grow with than my HPS but when the plants get taller the HPS will come out.

yeah i really love my t5 set up i leave it on 20 on / 4 off and it added around 3 dollars a month. it is the 24 inch 4 bulb fixture with plantmax bulbs which i used last grow to harvest around 3 1/2 ounces of really good blue dream using the t5 fixture only.

The difference between T5 and T8 bulbs are obviously the diameter ... but also take into consideration you get more lumens per watt from a T5, a bit less heat than a T8 and if i'm not mistaken a bit less energy is being used.
One thing I'd like to add ...... T5s are just fine for flowering as long as you have an even canopy .... I started with cfls then upgraded to a t5 fixture and you could see the improvement of the buds from the even light exposure. But t's gotta be a short and even canopy like i said.
I've recently upgraded to my first HID a 600 cooltube that I'll switch to for flowering .... but T5s IMO are fine lights for all growth

Yeah I would like to second that even canopy comment. If you do let your canopy run wild with T5 the uneven growth will get more and more exagerated as you move the light up and you will end up with decent yield on the taller plants and next to nothing on the shorter ones. I love my T5 though. The heat is easy to control, the light is even in my whole tent, it produces more plant usable light than an HID and you can put them real close to the plants resulting in huge illumination contrary to popular opinion. People say tha T5 isnt intense enough to flower but if you study the inverse square law of light my 6 bulb 30,000 lumen T5 at 4" is givinh my plants far more light than my 400 HPS at 12-18 inches or if not it is real close. I have a 12/12 from seed grow going on under my T5 right now.
