Hey folks,

I know it been 2 days since posting but I thought I’d give a quick update. She’s growing and stretching rapidly, looks like she’s growing at least an inch in height every day. She’s praying really well and when I was moving the water tunnel I have as an extension she smelled like industrial glue, a real plastic fragrance. I put a net on her on Tuesday and she’s really grown into it. I’ll need to raise the lights but before I do that I have to make a straddle between the two ends so I can attach my adjustable hangers. They are raised to the maximum height with the wires. Taking the wires off and raising it by the carabiner hooked on the board, will give me another 12”. The lights are hanging 16-18” above the highest top, so I believe the plant will stretching at a good height in relation to the light. I don’t like my tops being closer than 16”, I prefer them being at least 20” from the tops. Temps have been at a high of 81 and stay around 79, RH has been 62-64. Next Tuesday (6 days from now) I’ll top dress with Worm castings, it’s been about a month since she’s gotten castings so I figured a months time is long enough for a top dressing. Also by that time it’s been about 3 weeks since I top dressed her but it’s time it will be flowering 2 weeks so no high nitrogen ratios. Since there are no flowers yet I’ll give her a water soluble calcium spray and I’d like to get one more FPJ drench.

She’s starting to frost up. On the middle picture the bottom fan leaf has some resin starting to form. Should be a good sign of things to come.

Day 15

Hey Folks,

2 weeks down, 9 more to go. Flowers are starting to fill in and it’s still stretching. She’s doing real well, no signs of deficiencies or toxicities. I’m still getting used to watering this gal, and I’m keeping the mulch nice and moist. Three days ago I top dressed with 2tbsp fish meal, 2tbsp kelp meal, 2 tbsp of insect frass, bokashi, and at least a 1/2gal on EWC, then I watered it in. That’ll be it for top dressing with EWC, my bin is at max capacity and the worms are eating the mulch slowing, then again they have plenty of top dressings to eat.

She is flowering slowly, the growers notes say to take the Stardawg pheno to week 11. I read at least 4 journals who grew the California Cannon and they all wished they took it longer. None of those journals took it past 73, so I won’t be cutting it short. The growth of buds doesn’t remind me of my last Stardawg grow, I have a suspicion it will be on the Tahoe OG side of growth. She’s still stretching and I think she’ll go another week, no more than two for stretching. I have 8-10” of head room left, and the tallest bud is 18” from the light.

BTW, I have three clones rooted! They don’t look so hot, but at least they are rooted and growing.

Also, I’m making sprouted corn “meal”, just sprouted the corn, next I gotta heat and dry them. I’ll put it in my toaster oven at 150 degrees for an extended amount of time it stops the germination process and dries them. After they dry, I’ll put them in a coffee grinder and top dress them. I am a little hesitant to do this, because I think corn meal is high in nitrogen. I’m using it instead of malted barley, cuz well, I don’t have any money to buy them. I grew sweet corn this last fall and decided to be a baller on a budget. I think the nitrogen ratios are pretty low, nothing substantial.

Anyways,
Be Safe,
Merry Christmas

Day 19

Merry Christmas

Hey folks, lil update for the holidays. I top dressed with malted corn and watered in a sample from GreenGro’s Nature’s Brix. I don’t know if it’s organic, the ingredients are “organic” but I don’t know if it is or not. I’ll do a little digging.

I have been doing some pruning, and will get a little heavier in the next few days. She’s still stretching and she looks like she has another week of growth although I do think it will slow down. Here in a week I’ll give her a compost tea drench, I might put fish meal in it and do one last feeding of it. From there it will be reservoir fillings and a couple more compost teas.

She has the OG structure and no tight nodes. I have my suspicions this won’t be a heavy yielding pheno, but I’m cool with be wrong. More resin coming in

Best,
Be Safe

Are you doing any ferments? Anaerobic ferments do well in the rez and keeps pathogens away. Usually, compost teas are focused on aerobic bacteria, but these SIPs get soggy and swampy on bottom. Just a thought...

Hey @MustangStudFarm good to see you. I have LaB but haven’t put any in the reservoir, I think there are dead roots in the reservoir and I’m afraid the LaB and roots would negatively effect the water. I might try it. As for flowering ferments no, I ran out of FFJ banana and started a batch but forgot about it. I do have some FPJ Borage, but I use that in veg. I’m also using bokashi as a top dress as well as Dr Earth’s Flower girl (Fish bone meal + microbes+ mycos). Do you have any suggestions?

I think you’re right with the wicking and bottom. My wick is a 6.5 diameter net pot. I think it’s too big for the 12gal bin. I think I would go with something smaller.

Thanks for stopping by

Happy New Year folks

Day 25 out of 77<

She looks like she’s still stretching, but not as much. The leaves are really spreading out, it’s now the survival of the tallest. I don’t do much fan leaf trimming, only if they are blocking a top. Other than that no problems. I’ll do an EWC with fish bone meal tea and that should be it unless the plant really needs it. There is a lot of nutrients in the soil as well as those castings. The Growers notes say this is a heavy feeding strain but that hasn’t been the issue with me. Roots are coming up to the top but I’ll keep an eye on it.

I pollinated two tops 5 days ago so let’s hope it works. I stored the pollen in a jar in the freezer and when I opened the top the pollen was a clump, not broken up. I used a new paint brush and thumped the bristles to spread the pollen out.

the clones are doing well, I’m giving two of them away and keeping one. I will start off some new seed Jinxproof True Love ( Juicy Fruit x Norton (sour diesel x cheese)). Very excited about that. I have grown two strains of Jinx’s and have been pleased.

Day 32 of Flowering

Hey folks,

I hope everyone had a good holiday.
She’s stopped stretching and now is packing on buds… and leaves. She’s a leafy gal, so I have trimmed fan leaves heavily (at least 30). It really needed it and hasn’t skipped a beat. My last grow, I did not lollipop and I paid dearly. LED light greatly diminishes the lower it goes. The funny thing about the pruning, is no one would be the wiser if I didn’t tell them I trimmed the plant it’s that leafy. It’s getting smellier, I can smell it outside of the tent even though I have a semi-new charcoal filter, filtering and blowing out the tent air. It’s straight up OG, but woodsier. I’ll be replacing a 4” duct intake with a 6” elbow, get some better airflow with that. The LED is at it’s max level (273watts from the wall). The top with the most light is at 60k lumens, lowers are at 20-30k. It’s a week away from being halfway done. There are a couple of dried stigmas, throughout, but some tops are still very white.

I started a banana ferments like 6 months ago and never got around to it. I thought it went bad but actually it’s excellent. I separated it, and jarred it, and used some in the compost tea I made on Monday. I got a bunch of rain water from the farm I work at, and made a 4gal compost tea. I did not add any fish bone meal, just, FFJ, 6 cups of castings, silicate, 1tbsn of langebeinite. I top dressed with bokashi and a couple handfuls of castings. I brewed the tea for 40 hours, gave the plant 1.5 gallons from the top. I think I may do one last tea here in 3 weeks but that’s it. I think I put too much fish bone meal in the soil. Last time I added it was 3 weeks ago, although at less than half of the recommended amount. There will be plenty P in the soil as well as the castings I put down. I haven’t noticed any lockouts or anything, she smells and looks great

Btw, here is a picture from December 5, four weeks and some change of growth. I think she stretched 3x the size.

Day 39
Halfway there

Hey Folks,

We’re halfway through in the flowering cycle. I can’t imagine the changes she’ll be going through from now until she’s done. The trichomes are super gas, diesel, with that OG zest. No pine or lemon, but I do believe that will change. It’s sticky as hell and leafy too. I harvested some really low buds a week ago and they had that OG taste, however it tasted like weed I smoked in high school in the early 00’s. But that’s pretty dope it had the OG and still got me high. I also rolled it between my fingers to make charras, so beating up the trichomes and the weed still got me high. Pretty cool sign of what’s to come.

Since the tea, I have just watered it with rain water. One watering from the top, to pull the top dressings deeper in the soil and the rest of watering in the reservoir. I think I’ll do one or two teas between now and week 10. The last two weeks will be plain rain water.

I should be starting seeds this weekend or next.

Happy Weekend

Day 43,

Hey y’all, just a mid week check-in, I’m seeing some burnt edges on sugar leaves. I raised my lights the highest it will go and slightly lowered the brightness. The humidity has been really low, like 35 and I fill the reservoir every other day. It’s pretty saturated although the root structure is insane. Is it a watering issue? Is she hungry? I haven’t fed her fish bone meal in a month but even then it takes 55 days to break down. I must have to say this soil is very healthy and there are a ton of worms which makes me think it’s breaking down quicker. what do y’all think?

Hey folks,

This morning (lights come on at 7am), I top dressed with 3-4tbsn of 3-18-0 fish bone meal, a tbsp of malted corn and topped it with 4 handfuls of EWC. I watered it in with blackstrap Molasses and FFJ (Bananas). I’m starting to suspect the top is drying out too much. The mulch is dry as a bone everyday except for the pockets of where the worms are eating. Just half an inch below the soil is a mat of roots, apparently this plant is a heavy feeder. Lots of mycelium growing on the leaves, I think the fish bone meal will break down quicker than what it’s timeline says. Plus, with the worms, pill bugs and other micro fauna, it should get broken down fast. I also threw the FBM in with the malted corn and grinded it up with my 16 yr old electric coffee grinder. I ended up giving it one last top dressing to carry it to full term. The amount of roots in the soil, leads me to believe it’s resources will run low and needs a topping. I’m at least 34 days away from the breeders recommendation on when it needs to be cut: 77 days. Other Cali cannon grow journals I have read, suggested the same. She has like 2/5ths brown hairs, but the buds are still pushing out. A pointy top has formed on all the tops making the buds look conical rather than cylindrical. Any resin that sticks to me from the plant smells like straight up skunk. I was in class the other day and I could smell skunk on my cardigan from reaching over the plant and working with it. This should be a sign of good things to come

I think the browning of the leaf margins are from low water intake, low humidity, and high radiance from the lights. A couple days ago I did raise the lights up 3 inches and turned down the brightness slightly. It’s minor, but I don’t want it to get worse.

Happy growing

Day 46

Hey Folks,

The lighter colors of the leaves leads me to believe Senescence is starting. It’s over halfway done and starting to really bulk out. The cooler temps at night have definitely helped out with the ripening. The trichomes have a complex smell, at first it’s very burnt tire, old rags, skunk, then goes to a pinesol lemon fragrance, then just smells like a skunk. Bracts are starting to swell but new buds look like they’re still popping up. It’s a spiraling bud structure that I hope fills in. My room is starting to smell like it. The trich’s are super sticky, and the smell carries. Not much else to report.

Day 58
Flowering week 9

Hey Folks,

Sorry for the delay, I was out of town and schoolwork (college) has been piling.

She’s doing very well and the bulk and trich’s are really coming in. I can tell she’s on her last legs: fan leaves are dying, the smell is coming through the tent, bracts are swelling, 90% are cloudy, spotted some ambers but I don’t believe she’s ready. She has stopped drinking as much water, which I have noticed on other strains to be an indicator she’s on her way out. Branches are falling over, they feel almost brittle like nutrient reserves getting sucked out.

She is hella sticky, and the fragrance lingers. The trich’s are tall and plentiful. I smoked a cone of some lower buds that were harvested on day 51,52 and it was pinesol OG, got better with every toke. It was very racy and abrasive at first, but a nice calm to it. I’m intrigued to see what will come of it. I have some bubble bags, so I’ll be making bubble hash. I’ll include last harvest’s hash. It was my first time doing it, so the results were ok. I hope everyone is doing well.

Best
