Taking needles out of haystacks

Hey guys, I've been trying to find the strain wedding cake by seed junky for some time now but it seems it will not likely happen as these packs are discontinued and the only ones I could find were in auctions but were either already sold out or excessively expensive (+$800). I realize breeders like barney's farm and the like have "versions" of the weeding cake strain but it's not what I'm after. The wedding cake strain that Barney's Farm has, for example, is a crossing of GSC x Cherry Pie and they state that this is a "more indica leaning version" of seed junky wedding cake but it's actually far from that. Seed junky wedding cake is a phenotype of Triangle Mints which is a cross between Triangle Kush x Animal Mints. In any case, it's been hell to find. What I have been able to find is 2 strains that DO have the same seed junky wedding cake, but both crossed with another strain. My question was; can I cross two strains that have a common strain and through breeding isolate the common strain? For example say you have this:

Strain 1: Wedding Cake x Strain B
Strain 2: Wedding Cake x Strain C

I would imagine that it would be difficult or impossible to completely isolate those genetics but how close can you get if you even are able to do this? I'm new to breeding and would very much appreciate if someone gave me some insight into this. I've been reading a lot of books and such but nothing beats experience so I figured I ask the pros.

Thanks guys.

You're talking 16x16x16(2) x16? of growing to isolate the plants phenotype which leads to another insane formula to isolate the genotype (did I mix those up?) that has the same characteristics as Weddingcake.

It's totally possible but very time consuming.

I forgot to mention you would be hunting from a memory.

So you would have to smoke all the strains until you found the one you're looking for.

Not really a bad way to pass the time.

What about clones?
Not looking for clones as I can't grow right now and also because I want to have this strain around for as long as I can and seeds are the better way to do that IMO. A clone would have to be kept as a mother and then take cuttings to either grow them out or have one self itself to produce seeds. In your guys experiences, would these seeds loose some vigor but keep the same general characteristics of the original?

Been smoking some Wedding Cake lately and just found a seed lol ...its 1 seed though and it looks a bit premature. It was bursting out of the calyx; saw it by accident when breaking up the bud. It's not small but it's pale; worth a shot right?
