Taking notes

I’m curious how many of your guys keep a “grow journal” wether it’s hand written or using a app/software. I see a lot of people saying to keep track and write everything down. What do you use? (Software, note pad, old napkin?) what do you keep track off? (Feeding, temps, ph, lighting) and how often are you entering data? Thanks in advance guys!

I keep a notebook with dates written down, like when I take clones, start seeds, flip to 12/12, when I first see flowering, harvest dates, weights of harvest, etc. I've been lucky and haven't had any major issues so my notes are pretty basic.

I keep track of nutrient schedules in excel. Use a new tab for each room each run.

I keep a hand written log on my temp, rh%, co2 PPM, nutrient PPM, pH, res adds on my tent. For this run I mad a nice sheet that I can fill in to keep things organized:

I tried making an spreadsheet in my tablet that I could use in the grow but it never got used, it's just easier to make a note by hand when working.

I use white boards in each of my rooms, those have critical data and such for each run.

Good thread OP. I try to note everything but my problem is that I’m sloppy and it’s a mess. The advice on both handwritten and digital notes given above is great.

I track things in Excel. My spreadsheet has several areas. One is simply a log where I record that I
watered, took cuttings, when seedlings popped, etc

For another I track the currently growing plants, so at a glance I can see data for just one plant, or just one grow. I have tracked daily temp and humidity numbers, not always. I also track "how much."

I do this for many reasons, mostly because oh, hey, did I really water yesterday or was I just thinking about doing it and never did. Hmm.

I track projects in excel (plant count, room size, light stats, etc)

For things such as watering, nute strength, or other micro details i just use a notebook

I tried. My ADD kicked in, and I forgot partway through to keep track of pretty much anything. Then when I remembered, I couldn't find the notepad I was using. Been off ritalin for a while, maybe I should fill my prescrtiption.

I use note books with 300 pages - school style

I used to write down everything.
Decades later, I write down breeding info
dial in runs and highlight the end dialed in formula
New soil builds (mix content by volume)
Changes made to environment settings

I have begun to keep a calendar in the Bloom rooms again. On that I keep when the plant entered the room, AACT use, and "special micro sauce use dates".
Some of this data goes to the main book, as I'm doing experiments with a Mn/Fe based supplement...

In Michigan they say it's a good idea to write down harvest a amounts. Anyone can have 10 oz but if your a grower you can have more. But you need to prove what you have grown anything over the 10 zips

Has anyone looked back on their notes and found useful information to help with a issue? If so what data was useful and what type of issues where you having?

I keep a calendar in my grow room to write down things like when I took clones or popped seeds.
I keep more detailed notes, as someone else said, on an excel spread sheet with multiple tabs.
