Tap water?

I have some aeration to toss into 5 gallon buckets for my tap water. Our city only uses chlorine, no chloramine. I have been reading conflicting messages on how long an aerated 5 gallon of water would take to dechlorinate. Some people say 2 to 4 hours, while others say 24 to 48 which is the same time it supposedly takes just sitting out by itself. Anyone have any idea if I will actually cut my time to clean water dramatically with aeration or should i consider returning them short of using one for tea brewing? Lets assume the amount of chlorine in my water isn't anything crazy, and that I am trying to remove as much as possible in no longer than a 24 hour time period to use for organic living soil and protect my microherd. I am trying to find something other than absorbic acid (Vitamin C) that is non additive and effective in 2 to 4 hours if possible. Sorry for bringing up a year old thread. I searched and just cant seem to find an basic commonly held answer on "How long do I need to aerate my tap water to dechlorinate it?"
