Just saw the ad on the homepage and for what it looks like it seems to be worth it...

what do you guys think? not seeing any info on what types of cob's they are using but they look similar to a build i saw done by @Growmau5

let me know....might just buy a pair.
 
Hi simply_slide, as mentioned I use CXB 3590 CD and Vero 29. Check stock levels, only 1 CXB lamp available ATM. I just got a shipment of COBs in, I've been advised my drivers will ship tomorrow 2 day air, so assuming that's true I will be putting them together Wednesday and Thursday. Already have a couple spoken for but will be adding:

3 T2-1750s 66 PAR watts each
4 T3-1750s 99 PAR watts each
2 T1-2100s 39 PAR watts each

and probably 2 more V4-200s
 
The 5.886 profile is just about perfect. With reasonable cob spacing the surface area is slightly higher than necessary for a fan cooled option and good enough passive performance if the fan fails. It's the only one with fins wide enough to get a 3/8 bit in there which makes it possible to use rubber grommets rather than having the wire jacket against bare metal or do the silicone grommet thing.

I was looking around on Mouser and saw 4 HLG-240H-C1750s and 2 HLG-240H-C2100s... snagged them all. :) Which is good because Straight Road is having issues again. They delayed my driver order once already and told me they would ship Dec 1st with complementary 2 day air. I check with them today and they tell me the Meanwell factory hasn't shipped them yet but SR can probably get them to my door sometime this week. :( We will see.

Anyway, I corresponded a bit with them and they are going to try and keep 25 of each in stock so if you're wanting to DIY with those models in B version keep your eye out and you can beat me to them :D Mouser will probably be on top of it too. I suspect there will be plenty of sources for the 240H-C soon enough though.
 
@Rahz what one or two of your lights would you recommend for a 4x4?

i really trying to find an alternative for a 1000w.

im also very new to the world of led and a lot of this stuff rings no bells. so this option you provide is very interesting to me.
 
1000w in a 4x4 is pretty intense at around 1150 PPFD.

(3) T4-1400 1030 PPFD (650 watts)
(3) T4-1750 1220 PPFD (825 watts)
(3) T3-2100 1075 PPFD (740 watts)

That is giving the HPS a final efficiency of 37% which is more than fair for a single ended bulb. The 2nd option 3 T4-1750s would be similar in output to a Gavita 1000w. I think it's worth looking at a slightly lower PPFD to increase the phototropic efficiency. A 600w HPS will be more efficient (better GPW) in the same space for that reason. On the high end 3 of the T4-1750s will run just under $2000 and on the low end 3 of the T3-2100s around $1650. I'm still mulling the price scheme but it will be very close to that.

One of my favorite combinations is the T4-1750 in a 2x4 providing 830 PPFD, 2 in a 4x4 also 830 PPFD and about $1300

There are less expensive options for slightly lower PPFDs. I gotta run but will address this a bit more later tonight.
 
Lower PPFDs in a 4x4

(2) T4-1400 685 PPFD (430 watts)
(2) T3-1750 610 PPFD (405 watts)
(2) T4-1750 830 PPFD (539 watts)
(2) T3-2100 715 PPFD (492 watts)

All the wattage figures are total input including fan/driver loss and PPFD figures account for lens loss. I personally wouldn't dip down as low as 610 PPFD, but that last option at 715 PPFD would only run about $1100. But again the two T3-1750s aren't much more and would blow a 600w HPS out of the water. I do have a 3x3 I'm running at about 500 PPFD but it's just an experiment I've been playing around with to see how it affects yield. 1.1 GPW in soil (CXB 3070 AB) and I'm wanting to try it in hydro too.

I'm working on getting this information on the site. The plan has been to provide graphical charts in each product page but it's getting to be a mess as I imagine someone flipping back and forth between product pages trying to figure it all out so I might end up just pasting the spreadsheet on the front page, every model and every space combination for single and multiple lights in one table starting to look pretty good... would avoid posts like this one :)

No grow journals yet, I'm shipping my first couple units tomorrow.

I've been talking with my contact at Straight Road Electronics about stocking the drivers, ended up speaking with the manager there and they will definitely be stocking a couple variations of the 240H-C. She asked if there would be other products I would be interested in so I mentioned the CXB 3590. If all goes well we might end up with a domestic source for these chips in small quantities. I'm not sure what price they will be able to offer them for but will find out soon. Even if they're a bit more expensive than KB the shipping option would still make it a good deal for DIYers in the states looking for small quantities.
 
Im actually thinking about picking up a few of the 1400s just ordered one already. thinking about bolting 2-4 them on to my kind l600 light and have it on a mover in a 5x5. Do u think that would be sufficient for the wattage and coverage?
 
Thank you. I don't have any experience with light movers. There was a thread on it recently and people question how much it helps when there are already multiple light sources involved to begin with, but we would all love to hear from someone who has done it.

What space are you using that T2-1400 in? Or just buying a small lamp first to check out the intensity and build quality? I posted a PPFD chart in the "going commercial" thread and will have it on the website soon. Perhaps wattage can be cut using the light mover but it's not really something I can comment on.

I CAN comment from extensive personal experience with light moving; they work best- that is, provide the most improvement- for high intensity single point source lights, like an HPS thouie. Logically enough, this spreads out a hotspot that's too intense so that more canopy surface area underneath can get useful light. There's also a minor benefit to side lighting and penetration.

The problem with trying COBs on a light mover is simply that all the problems the light mover would solve have already BEEN solved by the lighting; it takes several to replace a 600W or 1000W HID and the grower will spread them out across their canopy, thus gaining better light distribution organically. Side lighting gets a boost the same way.

In short, COBs win because of better light distribution, no tricks required. Bonus points!
 
Already pulled the trigger on the movers but my local area most people use hps and love movers so i dont see a prob getting rid of em if my experiment doesn't produce. I actually have two 5x5 areas im working on if these cobs work im going to copy into to other 5x5 area. Crossing fingers this is solid so i dont have to spend no more money ugh.

And on top of that, HPS reflector penalty brings 1150 down to at least 920 and more likely ~800 PPFD averaged. For an air cooled hood, another 10% loss from the glass, when it is clean.

If I understand correctly the Gavita reflector emits 81% and some of that ends up on the walls as well, but that reflector does have one of the more ideal footprints and cheap to replace so I have to hand it to them for that.
