Teaching Creationism in public schools

As far as I know, out of respect for the First Amendment, Congress hasn't passed a law respecting this issue. If you can point out where they have, please post it.

I ain't no problem with them teaching creationism, as long as they teach evolution as well, plus the mayan creation myths, the egyptian creation myths, the greek, roman, and coptic myths......

NONE of it is provable anyhow, so it is all teaching beleifs, and all should have there day.

yes, it is taught in the church. What more do you want?

I suppose you could set up a class called LUNACY 101. Creationism, liberal economics, man made global warming, stuff like that would be okay together.
Next to a scientific theroem which has held the test of time combined with trial and error? Hardly warranted. Unless of course you are willing to put creationism through the same crucible of scientific testing. I'll make a wager on that outcome.

first amendment rights. google it
OK, fine. Have you read the Amendment? If so ... what does it say about the power of Congress? What does it say about separation of church and state? How does that relate to the teaching of Creationism in schools ... or praying in schools, for that matter?

I don't see the harm in teaching someone to have a little bit of faith. Teaching religion is one thing, but promoting faith is entirely different. As long as the promotion of faith isn't geared toward one idea of thinking it shouldn't hurt. As for the Atheists and Agnostics feeling like something is being forced down their throats, how about the way they force their "beliefs" down our throats during Christmas, etc. saying we aren't alowed to practice our beliefs.

lets teach astrology in school, while were at it. You know its just an alternate theory.
Why not teach astrology? Not teach it as an end all, but as subject matter. Isn't that what education is about?

I mean, you'd be perfectly OK with Marxist theory being taught as well as free market capitalism .... err ... Oh never mind.

The problem with all of these concepts is that the politicians have decided that they can use our school systems as "indoctrination camps" to mold the ideals and minds of the American youths. One partisan group uses our history books to indoctrinate and the other partisan group is trying to use science books to indoctrinate them. If it hadn't been started in the first place by the liberal left coast to change history, maybe the conservative mid west wouldn't have decided to change science.

Let's be objective here okay?

First, in the long run, you are not helping the "church" by diluting the message. Careful what you wish for. Have you seen what goes on in Publik Skools today? It's a perfect place to have your message mauled and transformed into something you won't recognize.

Second, why is creationism the thing to teach as opposed to "others"? Be honest.

Third, why is it important to you that other people follow your faith? Faith is personal. You should want to keep it that way.

Fourth, if churches wish to teach creationism in schools, then they should lose their tax exempt status. The church has already decided for OBVIOUS reasons not to go there. G*D needs money by the way. Lots of it presumably.

Fifth and final because I'm stoned, It doesn't measure up to evolution in any way whatsoever. It's like trying to teach home economics to an actual economics class.

Oh yah, because "Cream" is 100% correct.
