Wat i recomend is a light like mine for veg (saves alot more power then mh) and a 400watter hps does work perfectly and saves u power from a 1000watter , i dont know how many plant ur planing on florating but 400 watter is perfect for like 8-12 plants

I have this too for veging 400 Watt Mercury Vapor Standard - Mogul Base this is just the bulb tho u need a 400 watter transfo (lucky me my 400watter hps transfo does both 
) it produces like 22,000 lumens , i dont use it unless i have 6-8 plants veging

hi again. lots of people here really hate on the tin foil, for hot spots and its less efficient than mylar. id rather have flat white walls, they do just as well or prefferably mylar. i just put some up in my growroom and i like it. heres a link to the site i got mine from its pretty cheap there if you wanna get some. but i dont have a camera
heres some more info tho
when i planted them i waited till their roots were 1-2 maybe 3 inch on some
but im not sure if i planted them too close to the top when i did n tht y they r like tht
or if its jus how they r
like i said the very first leaves are about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the soil
by experience...does this sound normal?
or should they be shorter?
i have 2 150W cfl's and 1 100W cfl about 5-6 inches away from my girls

Move those lights closer to like 1-2 inches away. Stick your hand that close to the lights and it shouldn't be hot and your plants need the light.
