As i stated before, this is not for amateurs. You need to be aware of what your looking for. As the above states, those are the results you get when you don't know what your doing.

To be honest, I'm on my second grow and the 1st last year didn't go so well and I have about 12 plants. 3 went into shock when I made the mistake of moving them too early and they are only about 2-3 inches tall after 2 months (from seed) and I spotted a male. Males definitely have a different scent. (More of a weed/grass scent) whereas the females have the more significant cannabis scent.

Yeah the smell test works if you know what you doing...
Another method I know works is the GLR 12-1 in veg will show the sex pretty quick once you know and separated the males/females you can switch the veg time back to normal. :wink:

or the easiest way in the world is to top as you should do as good practice and put the top straight onto 12/12 and will show its sex within a week, a lot better rather than 'sniffing' plants.

I did not start this post to argue with damn kids, it is to inform all the intelligent growers out there that are interested. It does work and the proof is in ALL plants not just weed.

So I got 2 plants that's both bag seeds from the same strain. Bubba kush. The smell of the stems is one of the bushy ones smell like pure bud . And the not bushy one smell like something else . So I assume the bud smelling one might be female?

waaaay too many variables,
wait to see presex flowers.
period.
sexing plants on smell isn't a good idea...
especially on hybrids that aren't stable, in one pack of seeds you can have alllll sorts of variation.
i have grown many females that absolutely reek when brushed against, and conversely i have females that don't smell at all, neither of which have any predication on sex or potency.

After they having white hairs I don't smell that much smell no more

Done this for years, for sexing and pheno searching. Taught to me by my old hippy dad, thought he was crazy at first but he showed +95% accurate on both. Found any female that had smelled "kinda like a male" turned out to be undesirable compared to her sister.

For sexing the scent differs by the females being sweet/floral(pleasant) and males musky/earthy(reminds me of the gym), but that is dependent on strain with lots of pheno nuances, takes time to train your nose.

Selecting phenos for breeding found sisters(same generation of seedlings) that had scent leaning more toward the musk/earth at veg were lower crystal yeild...but sometimes the highest flower yeild.

In the end i take cuts off EVERY seed i pop, never know when one of them will surprise you at the finish line!

this is about as stupid as sexing by the shape of the seed....
Stem smells should be used as a genetic marker for determining the dominance of parental traits in offspring not for determining sex.

Don't slam what you can't do or don't yet understand. It is more of an art than science. I'm not saying it's absolute but it is credible.

@waterproof808 if scent should be used for "parental traits"(phenos) and males vs females do smell different, then why couldn't one use scent for sexing?

Btw shape of seed can tell allot about lineage, especially if it's a land race strain.
