temperature problems

im having a major temp problem with my girls.

there in soil andmy heat mat is f**ked i have an nft laying around and a large tub.

i was thinking about putting the pots in the nft and runing heated water pass the base.

can any1 see a problem with this.

please help a.s.a.p please please please

Heat problem? Too hot or too cold? We nned more info.

How cold? What is the temp? I know of the problems associated with elevated rez temps, but unless you are dropping below 60F, I doubt there will be a "problem". In theory, higher solution temps (within reason... high 60's to low 70's) will accelerate growth, but only with proper levels of oxygen & DO available... You can get aquarium heaters if this is the case. These have been used by others. Best.

well my hygro read 45f but nothing higher than 71.5f i have a aquarium heater and all the kit to do a nft.

is it safe to put the pots in a nft with some clay pebbles or will it just wash the soil out?
plus all my newts are for soil

Measure your water temps in the rez, or if not up & running, put a bucket of water in the room & check it at varying points in the day to get an idea of what the solution temp will be. Again, unless it is very cold, don't heat it... usually run into more problems with pathogenic growth vs any benefit in nute uptake/growth. The soil nutes will be a problem in your nft... no doubt. Regardless of availability issues, a recirculating solution of soil nutes will very likely not be buffered very well & you will have a heck of a time managing pH. It will likely gum up real quick too. You need a solid recirculating nute, say H&G aquaflakes, though there are other, this is very pH stable. The mesh pots should hold all the pebbles in. BTW, imho, you are setting yourself up for disaster by running a NFT system. You have the soil nutes, run your first batch in a solid soil. This will be far, far easier & rewarding. Otherwise, read up in the hydro section on nft... best!
