so got my hps yesterday and its running extremely hot my room was at around 68-66 degrees before the light and when i got home from work with the light being on for about 12 hours and the temp in the room was 91, i have a small ocelating fan blowing a breeze inbetween the light and the plants and now just put a nice big fan in the bottom and got the temp down to 86. im gonna try this setup all day tomorrow and see if it stays at a cooler temp and if it's reasonable. its a closet grow and im not using a box inside the closet just the closet itself so hard for me to have an intake and exhaust fan setup.

Photos or description of area would better help "US" understand your issue and reply with ideas and comments

You're going to have to get that temp down immediately. The plants just will not grow in temps of 85°F+. Since you're growing in an enclosed closet space, you need a ventilation system regardless of the temperature issue. Along with the heat problems, you will quickly reach a point of CO2 deprivation if you do not have an intake and exhaust system in an enclosed area. The plants will consume all the available CO2 in the closet leaving you with a CO2 deficit that will literally smother your plants to death. It can be something as simple as installing two cheap bathroom exhaust fans, one as the intake and the other as the exhaust. But it must be done or you don't stand a chance of producing any marijuana. When you get that setup, you'll probably discover that it also brings the temp of your room down by 5°-10°. You have to strive to maintain an average temperature of 77° for optimum growth. Above 82° and below 67° growth will be severely impeded, and at more extreme temps they will stop growing altogether. Get this resolved because if you don't you have already failed.

Not sure what the temps are outside your home, but if its cold outside consider opening a window to cool the room the closet is in. Monitor the temps and look for a balance. Ventilation and air circulation are extremely important, but you must also keep the room temperatures the closet is connected to or a box is in relatively cool, by natural means like venting the hot air out to allow cool air in, or by using air conditioners or other devices.

Good luck with getting your temps sorted. I'm sure you didn't do too much harm as you just got the HPS yesterday. Try some different setups with the air. you'll find the balance that works if you are persistent.
