tent light heights

I see some people hang the lights at the roof of the tent even if the plants are way down near floor level, then some people keep the lights around 1 foot to 18" off the top adjusting as plants grow taller. This is with hps/mh/cmh.

Are people trying to create stretch with lights that far away or does the tent reflect that well?.

Also have noticed in flower rooms that a lot of commercial or large scale growers hang the lights really high up compared to what the indoor or small scale growers seem to do (even with 1k's).

They are trying to create a more evenly lit canopy. Having your lights higher away from the plans and having more of them makes the light spread much more even and reduces hot spots. Having multiple lights hung also helps to reduce Shadows.

Would that be a more evenly lit canopy at a lower over all par?.
