Tent size help....I'm a little new and not sure...1st time

I was just talking with a buddy and he said he believes the Boveda packs kill the smell of your bud. He hasn't tried the other ones. He likes to use jars or turkey bags to keep the smell.
 
Ya I love jars...and they look so damn good. How do you keep your bud fresh for longer.....the bud I have dries out after a while. ..do I need like a makeshift humidor?
 
Yeah I have a set of 3 channel ones too, one in veg, one in room a and one in room b. I keep the readouts on my desk upstairs so I can monitor temps and humidities while I am chilling. I hear they make wifi ones now too that are even better, they connect to your internet router and you can check from your phone, setup alerts and whatnot.

I have used cheap tents for a couple of years and have never had a problem. I had 1 4 x4, then 2, then I moved up to 2 5 x 5s. Now i run one 8 x 9 flower room, one 5 x 5 and separate areas for veg. The cheap tents have never been a problem for me. There may be tiny light leaks at the zippers, but that has never been an issue. I keep the zippers lubricated with petroleum jelly and I support the corners with zip ties. I have a friend with a Gorilla tent and I feel like he was ripped off. The 5 x 5 I'm using has been in continuous use for over 2 years, and I paid less than $150. I invest the bucks in filters and fans. Don't go cheap with those!

Ya I think the gorilla tents are WAY too much money. I think I'm gonna possibly go with the vivo sun and then look at the more important stuff like fans and filters and lights. Have to find a cheap drying tent and get that going too
 
I have a question about ventilation. What is the best cheap fan I can get to just get started. I'm going to need one for the drying tent anyways but it doesnt need to be crazy good right now. The ladies are outside right now and I'd rather have a good drying and curing process set up than rush another indoor grow set up and ruin all the work of the summer. So what's a cost effective fan that isn't total shit. Theres one from vivo sun for 150 on amazon but I'm sure theres something cheaper...or something I could build. Any suggestions help.

I use an 8 layer mesh rack that I bought on Amazon for 21.00 for drying. I added a solid floor to the bottom to catch kief. I grow a lot of strains at once, hence the 8 layers. You could probably use something smaller. I have to use a dehumidifier to dry mine since I'm in a very humid area. As far as the fan goes, I would go 6 inch instead of the 4 if it were me. The more air flow the better, plus if you ever decide to upgrade it will be one less thing. Also, the only filter that I trust is the Phresh brand. I've tried cheaper ones and they don't last. Don't go cheap on your filter if stealth is a consideration.

Thats just a food dehydrator with the liner accessories, like $69 anywhere on earth, not $250 because its for cannabis...
cindysid has got this all down, mesh rack/liner is much better. Hang it outdoors or in, pin the unused sections up or down as needed, move it into the humid room in winter, fold flat when not needed, etc. Save your money for a humidifier sized for your room come winter in Canada, thats what you need by November for the room.
Go with 6" exhaust with 8-10 inch intakes with intake filters, makes thing easy to control (heat/humidity/bugs) down the road.

It bumps your initial investment up, but $120-200 for a carbon filter that works, $30 for intake filters and $60-80 for more durable coated ducting is worth it over the Vivosun package. The Vivosun filter won't make 3 crops unless you dump the charcoal and repack it or refill it.
 
So another question...about the carbon filter. Is that only for the smell (exhaust) or is that a good idea for intake aswell. I'd like to grab the stuff to do this right the first time anyways and if you spend 150 and have to spend another 250 instead of just spending the 250 1st....you just lose 150. So for getting a better ventilation system off the bat....I'm in. What's some good brands you guys are using?

Now to dry the buds in a hanging rack isn't it better to have them in an enclosed area I.e. tent or box or something? Or just in my bedroom hanging with my laundry. And if in my bedroom I would need to make the entire room ideal conditions to dry with right humidity and temp etc.. I may just have a 1/4lb max or 1/2lb MAYBE from my 2 midgets outside this year....is maybe a simple box a better idea with the right stuff to control the environment than trying to control an entire room?
 
I just use a dust/bug filter, these work well enough

You can make hi flow air box with UV/ humidity pretty cheap, just need space for it.
 
You can buy a cheap tent I have 3 viviosun and they all work just fine. I do happen to like my more expensive tent more it is 4x8 silver back tent from htg supply(a lot like gorilla tent). But the cheap tents work just fine.

But that viviosun 4 inch fan and filter are straight junk. I can't even use the filter with the fan in a 2x4 with t5. The fan just isn't strong enough and I think it has gotten worse since I got it.

Cheap tent is okay and I guess since u said u had a 4 plant limit your legal but I still recommend not skimping on a carbon filter unless u have no neighbors or visitors. Otherwise someone might feel the need to get baked and have been smelling your house and decide to come in and take your work. CAN brand filters are what I always use, I've tried others and some work okay but none as well as CAN that I've tried yet.

I know you said 4x4 but everyone always wants to upgrade so if you got room get a 5x5, get a 1000 watt dimmable ballast, an air cooled hood (blockbuster is one of my faves) and a hortilux bulb. I'd go with 6 inch fan (hydrofarm fans work fine) and a can 66 filter.

I know led lights are all the rage now, but your on a budget I wouldn't go down that rabbit hole and spend a ton of money on new tech. I've used all the new tech cmh, led, de cmh and imo hps is still one of the best.

Oh and the reason I said 5x5 is cause of sq ft. What doesn't seem to be much difference only a foot bigger each way makes big difference on sq ft and it's just easier to get better yields with more sq ft

3x3= 9 sq ft
4x4=16 sq ft
5x5= 25 sq ft
That's a big difference when it comes time to weigh your plants as you can only get so much per sq ft.

Also don't be scared of a 1000 watt light it won't be that much on electric bill, but they penetrate better which means better yield unless you get really good at canopy management which is what it takes to yield with smaller lights.
 
Thanks a bunch man. Appreciate the vast amount of advice. I had a feeling the fan was gonna be shit. I'll look into all of what you mentioned. I'm planning this thoroughly first before I try anything and waste a bunch of time and money....like I didn't even think about run off and that's huge thing.

And an HPS bulb is amazing for flowering I heard but maybe....a good idea would be to veg them with an LED? To maybe save the money a little on hydro? Not sure....or just stay with HPS all the way through?
