TGA By Others

The mother of my Vortex cross, my pride and joy, my 'old #1', Garlic Bud 98 on day 14. I bet she's been cloned at least 80 generations from the seed plant and still going strong. She'll be pollinated with a Green Avenger male this summer outside.


These 2 pics are from years ago when I guerilla grew her outdoors. Harvest day and cut off the big fans leaves before drying. Long sagging lime green colas that finish between 9-27 through first week of Oct. Anyone who's smoked it was just blown away. Old school sativa dominate that acclimated to the climate here, I would put out rooted clones in cups 3rd or 4th week of June and they would finish between 8'-10' tall. Great outdoor memories.

Garlic Bud 98 x Vortex's offspring. 2 phenos from seed going into bud in a day or two with 2 other phenos already in bud for about a week. Everything in SS and only water. I know it's not a TGA strain and this is 'TGA by others' but it has Vortex in it.

So lush man. Do you pinch tops or just let them grow?

AC/DC X PennyWise day 30. Out of 4 phenos, 2 are short and stocky with more indica in them and had to be fed some Nitrogen nutes because they were fading a little too early to my liking. This one here is the opposite. Growing much taller w/ more sativa in her with all the fan leaves praying up to the lights . The smell is 'rank' with pine underneath. It's really hard to describe at this time but totally different smell than say the parent JTR of Pennywise. But the shorter more indica one is gonna have huge buds that resemble golf balls stacked on top of each other. I was gonna pull her out and take pics tonight but it's just too much of a pain in the ass, they just got watered and the room is almost packed full.

The GB98 and the GB98xVortex were grown straight up un-topped. I did top the ac/dc x p.w. only once when they were young.

Cool. When I started growing I was always topping, pinching but lately Ive been letting them go natural due to my shorter veg times. I did top some of my current plants just to keep them shorter, but its sort of cool seeing a 6' plant in a 3-4 gallon pot all naturale

Since the past month or so I decided not to top plants anymore and just let 'em grow straight up. Less time in the veg room. If I top my TimeWreck, it slows down so much and takes so much time to get to the desired height, I hate it. Even untopped, my TW get so bushy I have to thin her out in bud.

I think thats a good plan. I let my last round of plants go untopped, but I topped some of these and yes, they did slow rtf down, hate that too. I may start letting them all go natural on 2nd thought

PlushBerry and Jacked-Up will be going into flower in a few days and it's time to take cuts. Good ole 'dip n grow', pro-mix and cups. Keepin' it simple...

Doing some work during the dark cycle. The other pheno of ac/dc x pennywise. Had to give her some nitrogen nutes the other day.

Thought this was pretty cool. An old strain review of Vortex. They say it's 'cheesy'...I don't know where that's coming from but I loved the review and how it made Vader and that other guy break out into a sweat! lmao.

TimeWreck day 13 bud-set + a branch that's almost dried.

The Jacked-Up is a mixure of Jagermeister/cough syrup/kitchen cleaner and maybe a little bit of lemon underneath at the end. Very complex.

thanks my good man. sorry if you already posted it. but what is your ss recipe? I have been growing tga since the beginning, tesed for him back in the breedbay days, and have run 75% of his released lineup. been doing supersoil for over 10 years.... rezdog recipe etc.

long story short, you consistently rock TGA better than anybody.. Ocanabis does as well. I have some mighty fine batches under my belt too but Daaaaamn

This summer will be my 4th year doing SS. I make my SS a little bit 'hotter' than the original mix.
9 bags of roots
60 lbs of worm shit
5 lbs of alfalfa meal
6 lbs of fish bone meal
6.2 lbs of bloom bat shit
7 lbs of blood meal
couple handfuls of lime
couple handfuls of azomite
small pouch of organism micros
and 1 container of raw natural oatmeal thrown in and that's it.

In a 10 gal. bucket, I put 3 or 4 shovels full of roots in then put 3 or 4 shovels full of SS. Mix together with my hands real good then just fill with straight Roots. Works like a charm. If a strain is a heavy feeder, like TimeWreck, I'll mix in 5 or 6 shovels full of SS into the 3-4 shovels full of Roots. I got all my dry ingredients now and just waiting for the weather to get warmer outside to make it. Mix it on a tarp real good, wet it down with the hose then cover it up with the same tarp. Come back in a few days and you wouldn't believe the mico web and heat coming off the pile of soil! I let it sit until the end of September then put it in garbage cans.

looks pretty similiar to mine. I max out around 5 pounds of the main ones. Ill try hotter this time around. i've always had best results using roots as well. whenever I tried something else, not quite the same.

I've taken notice that Roots is coming with the 'root aphids' or whatever the hell they are, again. Kinda like fruit flies or something. No problems all winter but now they're showing up in the Roots again plus I think Roots is running a little hot now, at least the last batch I bought it. It was a fresh batch just shipped in, the guy at the grow store said.

I was going through some old pics tonight and found the first time I ran Vortex. My keeper was a fantastic lemon pheno that swelled up like softballs and had the best head high. I ran a 10 pack of it shortly afterwards but never found that exact pheno I had from the first time. Kicking myself for losing it. Live and learn.

I had that problem myself. Yes they're root aphids not to be confused with fungus gnats. These things are a pain to get rid of. They seem far more resistant to pesticides thrips and fungus gnats. They fly around and get stuck in the buds and die. If you ever do hydro it is just sick how fast they multiply and cover the roots. They are like little ticks sucking on the precious roots. Then they grow wings and multiply. I don't think they have a worm like larva stage like the fungus gnats. I've seen them in extremely small sizes. One time I had them so bad after spraying the top of my soil I seen a layer of them moving across the floor. It looked so unreal and it took a second for me to realize because they were so small. I used a dishsoap water mix for the little cocksuckers. I think this is when I also observed they really like to take advantage of the holes in the bottom of pots.

What helped me control them was fertilome triple action. its pyrethrins and neem oil. I don't like using chemicals myself but when I do I try to research what the safer ones are. Im sure we all know about neem oil, but neem doesn't kill. Pyrethrins are actually organic and made from chrysanthemum flowers. It quickly breaks down in light and oxygen. Now another common one are pyrethroids and other similar names usually with -oids at the end. These are synthetic and bad for the environment. They take a long time to break down. Pyrethrins are also one of the most commonly used pesticides used by farmers. In theory they are supposed to be harmless to us. Humans do not have the receptors in our brains for them to attach to. Bugs on the other hand, it is their worse nightmare. Also may be dangerous for certain pets like fish and cats if I'm not mistaking. I cannot guarantee how safe it is but I never wear a mask or use gloves with it. I think I have went over a teaspoon per gallon but I'm not sure how much is too much. I just would add it when the plant needed water next. then i would mix 1 teaspoon per quart in a spray bottle and spray the top of the soil very heavy. I heard neem and other pesticides can kill your microbes though. I'm not sure if it's true or not.

My favorite way to battle the aphids chemical free grow stones gnat nix. It's recycled glass and not sharp enough to cut you when handling it. In fact I don't wear gloves with this stuff either. I do wear a mask because it is very dusty. Put a top layer on your soil. It cuts their bodies up if they try to surface. To prevent them from coming out of the bottom of your pots, I just switched to all smart pots. If you ever do hydro they are even worse but at the same time easier to get rid of. get an appropriate sized bucket and dip the net pot in a strong mixture of the water and fertilome. Watch the bodies float. Rinse well with water. Repeat a few times every few days to kill any survivors and hatchlings.

I did both of these to get rid of my bugs. I stopped using everything now all the sudden I got thrips last time I had them a couple dr doom bombs wiped them out completely. I just hate using chemicals though. I don't know of any hidden dangers with the ones I use but I take the risk.
