TGA Vortex Harvest Report

Strain: TGA Vortex regular seeds purchased from the Attitude
Set-Up: 39x39x72 grow tent, Deep Water Culture hydro. Maintained temps between 60 & 70 Deg F
Lights: 200 W T-5s for veg, 400W HPS + 250W MH For flower.
Nutes: Botanicare Pro and Liquid Karma. Sweet added durring flower.

Female ratio: 4 females out of 4 seeds planted.

Veg time: 30 days (about 12 inches tall)
Flower time: first cut taken at 7-1/2 weeks (today) from flipping to 12/12. Plants were about 4-1/2 to 5 feet tall. Had to LST to keep them under the lights. 2nd cut will be taken at 8-1/2 weeks. Flush was started about 4 days ago with just sweet.

Trichomes: 95% cloudy, 20% amber on first cut.
Aroma: Pleasant lemony scent with a faint bit of cinamon and baby poop. Not bad from a stealth standpoint though I don't think any RIU members would be fooled. Definately not the odor control problem you're going to have with skunk or AK47.

Yeild: Average. I expect I'll probably end up with about 10-12 oz total. It's a little hard to judge though because this is about the most dense weed I've grown in years.

Bag appeal: Not huge buds, but beautiful, frosty and dense. Large calixes, lots of red hairs, light and dark green buds.

Comments: Very easy to grow. Had zero problems from start. Never had a nutrient problem. Modest odor, though far from odor free. Trimming was a little better than average. Sorry about the lack of picks, but I'm limited to using my Phone for this kind of report. Will post a smoke report in about 1 month.

An update: Sampled my first bit of 7-1/2 week bud yesterday in a vaporizer. Keep in mind this is pretty preliminary since it's just dried, no cure. The bud was slightly more than popcorn at about 1/3 gram.

Appearance: dark green with red and white hairs, very very frosty. Looked like it was dipped in powdered brown sugar.

Smell before vape: Pure citrus. Very nice lemon / lime smell. Not much else.

Smell / taste during vape: sweet lemony taste, pretty harsh, a hashy aftertaste. The harshness wasn't at all unusual for a just dried sample, but I probably would have coughed up a lung with a big hit off a bong. My guess is that it will be on the mild side of average after cure with a more pronounced sweetness.

Strength: Well above average, say a solid 9. Probably stronger than AK47 at around 8-8.5. It's a creeper trippy high that is clear headed and functional. It took about 10 minutes to ramp up, so there is real potential to get seriously fucked up before you realize how high you are. Effects last 2-3 hours. Didn't feel like I was near any ceiling, but further testing required.

Nature of effects: The description below was for a relatively small amout of un-cured bud vaped by a daily user. I expect it will be a different experience at higher levels and cured. No munchies, not really good for nausea. If you suffer from parkinsons disease, it appears to augment the effect of the prescription domamine agonists which is a nice bonus. Seems to be great for pain because I wasn't feeling anything but good. Really strong visual effects. Close your eyes and it's a 3D kalidescope. Audio effects too- while working out in the gym it seemed like I could pick out every conversation and audio track individually. Very thought provoking too. Didn't have any problems sleeping. No paranoia at this dose. Overall I'd say the effects were about what you would expect out of a very nice sativa dominant hybrid.

Final thought: If this stuff cures well, I've found my new favorite head stash. Thanks Subcool!

I was really high for 1/3 of a gram but I've been higher. However, one gram of this stuff would have made me non functional, and I vape every day. When it's cured I'll push the limit as far as I can (in the name of science). I'll post a final weight tally when it all is done drying.

An update:

Cut down the 8-1/2 week stuff last week and it's now in the curing jars.

Appearance dried: light green with orange hairs and sparkly.
Smell: Same as the other cut- Sweet lemons
Taste: About as harsh as you might expect for just dried. Lemony with a baked muffins taste. Will be nice cured.
Effect: Less trippy than 7-1/2 weeks. Very clear headed high with a calm relaxed feeling but no sleepiness. Excellent party or wake and bake weed. You can get absolutely stratospheric on this stuff and still be in the moment and socially polished. This would be about the most perfect weed in the world if you had a job dealing with customers over the phone. I love this stuff!

I think I should have waited a bit longer on the 7-1/2 week cut. There was quite a bit of bud growth in the last week with substantial swelling of the callixes. 100% cloudy, about 50% amber.

I've gotten really lazy on harvesting. Unless the bud is about half the length of my pinky, I'm not bothering to trim it- just tossing it into the trash pile. I think I've spent at least 8 hours trimming. This strain really benefits from topping. Hundreds of bud sites.

Weight total: 323 grams from 650 watts in hydro. I could have pushed this a little higher if I hadn't gotten tired of trimming at the end.

By my experience this is a good yeild for my set-up running a strain for
The first time. With cloning and tweaking the layout I'm confident I could reach 400 grams with no problem. Not at all bad for some fiercely strong weed.

I've smoked a lot of pot over the last 30 years and Vortex can hang with the best. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Incidentally, I tried a bowl of 8-1/2 week in my glass bong last night and took the dogs for a walk in the rain. It was much smoother than I expected and the sweet lemony taste was right there. It was creeper, so the one rip took about 5-10 minutes to fully manifest, but one rip was all it took for me to feel invincible. I only burned about 1/2 the bowl.

Sure, why not? I only grow for myself and I've got more than I need. Between the Blue Mystic, the LA confidential, the LA Woman, the AK 47 and the Vortex currently in the cubbard, there is no way I can smoke it all before it gets old.

Growing your own really is the only way to go.

Update / smoke report:

The 7-1/2 week cut has been curing for about 3 weeks, but it's pretty.clear where this one is going.
Smell in the Jar: sweet with a touch of dirty socks and sour cherry. If you have ever smelled cherry cavendish tobacco, it's a little like that.

Vaporizer Taste: strong sour taste with a spicy astringent finish on first drag. Sweet and sour after that. Very nice.

Bong Taste: Very smooth sweet lemonade taste. You can do monster rips with this stuff.

Nature of effect: When you first inhale, you feel a bit like your head is being gently squeezed, but other than that, no immediate shock and awe. If you stop there, you will be pleasantly buzzed in about 5-10 minutes. Trippy, but very clear headed and your body feels fantastic. Definately an up high. If you decide after 30 seconds that it's weak and do 4-5 more rips on the bong, you better have a high tolerance because you will be orbiting the planet before you know what hit you. I never got to the point of an anxiety attack, but I suppose it's possible. For me it never stopped being fun, but I have a pretty high tolerance. Newbs should be cautious. No munchies, no brain dead feeling. Overall a Sativa dominant effect similar to AK 47 but stronger.

Good for: Pain (8-1/2 week cut is better) excersize, muscle spasms, listening to music, dancing, parties, socialization (in moderate quantities).

TGA always made me happy. i really liked their subcool and you're the third positive review i've heard for the vortex. def interested in trying it out. thanks for the info!

Great smoke report QG. Thanks for the update after the 3 week cure. I have an Apollo 13 bx in veg now and it should be similar to Vortex. Vortex sounds like world-class marijuana.

I look forward to reading about your A13 BX. Should be fantastic. Re the Vortex: Yes, it's world class. I haven't smoked / vaped much else since it was dry.

The report is on my first grow of Vortex. Next run I'll pick a mother and get serious about cloning the best.

Update: comparing the 7-1/2 week cut to the 8-1/2 cut, the later cut is not as trippy, not as sour tasting, has more of a body effect (pain relief, general feel good) and generally a little more mellow. Both are clear headed. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the 8-1/2 cut, but it's really close. If anyone has pushed this to 9 or more weeks, I would like to hear about the effect. I'm guessing it turns into a warm and fuzzy body high.

Great report man, but might I suggest instead of throwing the unused small buds in the trash, throw them in some ice water! Ice hash is very easy and not much work at all for the payout.

You are absolutely right. The problem is I grow super stealthy. Even my wife and daughter don't know I grow and smoke/vape. I don't have the space or privacy to pull it off. Gardening is easier because I also grow tomatoes,flowers, spices, etc. which explains the ferts and such.
