I've tried to get my head around this thread and have read the first half dozen pages.

I'm very early into a grow (week 4). Always been an outdoor grower. Gotta go inside now.

Got a tanning rig at a garage (yard) sale. Unfortunately it's UVA not B. Is UVA any good for growing?

Fixture holds 5 but I've only got 4. They are 65-80W/09N, (starters are rated 4-80 so I assume they are running @ 80, dunno what the 09N means).

Timer is a nuisance dunno how I'll get around the dial which only goes for 30min max. I appreciate any feedback, cheers.

Having read thru alot of this thread, could someone cut to the chase and let us know if it does effect bud production... quantitiy, potentcy, looks, harvest time etc... a great executive summary would really be helpful.... thanks

Well I popped a couple of Repti glo 10.0 26 watts into the room to see if there are any changes.... have some plants with max exposure and some probably only slight if any... will have an idea of outcome in about 3 weeks....

But in thinking this thru,,, I am trying to replicate Mother nature as close as I can and I am a poor substitute but my thinking goes if the UV B is there all day long in the sun, then why shouldnt it be in my grow room? I also like to assist my plants.... lots of bamboo stakes and zip ties.... want the buds getting the max exposure and late in the grow some of the branches get real real heavy and can even topple my 5 gallon buckets....

This crop is looking like my best yet,,,,

Well I know have photograpphic evidence to support the UVB position with the repti sun's. Next grow we add more...

It is hard to capture the minute differences with cameras.... but after a bit the UV B girls get frostier.... for the price of a cheap light bulb and fixture.... prolly under $40 in most places ... you can prove it to yourself.... ensure you wear eye protection....

The MH spectrum is not as strong as the UV b bulbs in the obvious UV B spectrum.... they do make a differnece and are very cost effective.... 26 watt light can be used to illuminate 4 to 5 plants...

I usually go with the reptisun 10.0 23w CFLs but have recently added tube side lighting. I was thinking of putting in UV bulbs ever other level but can't find them for cheaper than $20 a pop. Any chance you have a cheap source of UV flouro tubes?

I found an interestiing write up, with references about UVB, the optical qualities of the resin bead, and the peak cycles of UVB daily as it relates to various strains. Bottom line. UVB is
necessary.

The writer's own experience allow for a more specific conclusion: If the UVB photon is missing from the light stream(a), or the intensity as expressed in µW/cm2 falls below a certain level(b), the phytochemical process will not be completely energized with only UVA photons which are more penetrating but less energetic, and the harvested resin spheres will have mostly precursor compounds and not fully realized THC(c).

(a)Examples of an environment where the UVB photon would be missing from the light stream include all indoor cultivation illuminated by HID bulbs and in glass or corrugated fiberglass covered greenhouses.

absolutely great thread, thanks for all the info Eza and welcome to Mi im switching to bloom next week and will be buying a reptile light for use in the last three weeks along with the 3000w hid i currently use, i will only put the bulb on half of the grow so as to compare, i'm currently growing permafrost and dj shorts blueberry. the perm should be very interesting seeing as it already looks as if its been roled in sugar.

im interested in testing this theory as i watched the same video a few nights ago , ive got a 15w florescent light bulb and its been on my plants for 1 hour every night at there peek "noon" hour, but i forgot it on the other night and it ran for 7 hours until 7am when the light went off and i realized the uv light was on, anyways on with the question :), could this potentially be harmful for my plants? i think there showing minor signs of uv burn but im not sure what to do at this point, should i continue with 1 hour a night and let them recover under that, or should i let them chill for a few days before trying this again, thanks :) i will have the accual bulbs name and code later tonight when the light cycle kicks on:peace:

bumping this for knowledge, i think everyone should be interested in supplementing uvb light into their grows. very informative thread.

Been running a 4' 32w reptisun 10.0 at less than 12" for a week @ 18HOURS /DAY with no harmful effect, in fact, buds are exploding

How can your buds be exploding in a 18/6 cycle? lol. If you mean you just have the uvb on 16 hrs remember the suns highest uva/uvb range is from 10am to 4pm! (6hrs) To much stress can hermie some strains. Food for thought.
