The age old question HPS, MH vs LED

I really did win a 1000 watt HPS...I am running it now. And I have never used one before. I used to really think about cost and i did the math and if i run it in bloom it costs 30 bucks a month for a 1000 watt hps....i spent 200 for an oz before and i currently go through one of those per week..or so.

Perspective.

But after growing with a lot of different lights, the new gen stuff (samsung, cobs, strips) grow VERY well. And if you hone your skills It is a pretty stupid thing to argue about.

Because GENETICS GENETICS GENETICS....and SKILL and ENVIRONMENT ENVIRONMENT are what grow monster buds.

Sorry i went all trio formula there...but i smoked a big fat Purple Primate and i am a lot ripped...

That's a damn nice bud and looks like you had a very good grow. But if you go back in history you'll find just as impressive grows done using HID's. both lights can produce excellent results. It basically comes down to the grower. I'm myself will continue to use HID's because I don't feel the need to pay ridiculous prices to get the quality LED's that are equivalent to HID's. I'm not waiting five or more years to realize the savings in electricity.

Regardless, as I said nice looking harvest. But the same can be had using HID's.

Yes, and would you believe it was my very first LED grow. You can see why I'm a convert – it works.

Point is however that those great buds grown with a 600 hps could have easily been done with 400 watt cobs or boards

A third of your power savings, less heat, lower profile, less light degradation over time, longer lifespan, better spectrum and never having to buy another bulb – these things all count to me.

But you're also preaching to the choir because I was a long-time HPS grower, too.

I don't give a shit what the tent cost. Let's review.

You said that it would take a fourteen thousand dollar Spyder setup to compare to a $600 HPS setup. That was your claim. You then attempted to clarify(backpedal) your statement by stating that you were actually comparing 4-6 Spyders to several HPS 1000s.

That is when I pointed out that 6 Spyders cost roughly $9k, leaving $5k of your original claim essentially floating in limbo. A Spyder will just about match a 1k HPS in terms of performance, so you would need half a dozen HPS lights to be comparable. But you originally stated that it would take "$600 worth of HPS" - so then, where are you getting complete HPS 1000s(bulb, hood, ballast) for $100 each???

Then this is where you decided to dig your hole of bullshit even deeper, claiming that the extra $5k from your original $14k estimate was for the actual room build out - fans, ducting, AC, tent, 2 of the largest carbon filters in the universe. You also tried to claim that the total build cost of the HPS room was $1500

So here's what everybody is wondering - How did you build a complete grow room for $900? Can you please explain that? One room with 6 lights cost $5000 to build, while the other costs just $900? What? I'd also like to point out that the HPS room would require the same size tent and more inline fans and AC - it's gonna be hot in there.

So please, explain all of the above bullshit that you tried to push on everybody. If you have some negative opinion about LED, then that's fine, but you don't have to make up complete and utter bullshit in some sad attempt to make your point. It just makes you look pathetic and foolish. But I'm sure that instead of coming clean and admitting you were making shit up, you'll just double down on stupid and continue to dig your bullshit hole deeper and deeper and deeper . . .

Will these work? There is no way you will be able to out work me. I will smash every lab test you can show grown with your lights. There is no possible way your lights can produce more potent marijuana's than my lights. And when I show you my lights 10 bucks says you shit yourself.

Whatever space you're in, you've got a fixed amount of electricity coming into it. Now you can grow twice as many grams of weed in that space.

So let me get this straight: in 2015 you tested 27.81% but two years later you only tested 23.1% – so you're going backwards! What happened to your lights? Or was it your grow skills? Or was it the machine? I'd love to hear your excuse this time.

Checking in for HID boomer team

So here's my opinion......LED works....Quantum works.....HPS works.....not everyone can use whatever they want though. I personally use LED/ QB's. I'd prefer to use HPS lights but they are not an option for me.

Any way you can grow her, she will grow and reward you with happiness. Not sure why so many of us bash each others techniques and equipment, rather than supporting and helping......try a few techniques, lighting options, etc and find out what works for YOU, your space, growing style, medium, heat removal, environment, water and strains. Everything everywhere and everyONE is different!

all lighting options have benefits and drawbacks; i use CMH primarily and love the UV and strength of product it creates, keeps plants short and healthy....drawbacks are lots of leaves, lots of CalMag and short nodes with low penetration....so during flower I supplement with vertical HPS. Works great for me and likely for you too, but someone can easily respond with LED propaganda to shame me.....and I still won’t switch because CMH + HPS works great for me!

Boomer COBs LEDs and Boards. Bud.
