that's only half the problem. those who suddenly feel compelled to ask me to draw iran's route to the sea after some ridiculous statement in a debate is one thing.
the other half of the problem (probably much less than half in number) are the "righties" who dream up and invent brand new ways to take it far beyond the batshit level of crazy found in the craziest of leaders. these people vote, and they make michelle bachmann sound smart with their statements on this forum sometimes.
for example, we've got some people here that believe that multiculturalism will lead to "a singular mindset". makes her vaccine conspiracies seem downright tame in comparison.

If you're signed into your youtube or google account, it will show you as the first person. Pretty much everyone on this forum, and searched this site while logged in, will get you as that word, because you use it the most. Since google will spider this site first if you ever searched it. Non-atheist uses that word second. I don't come up at all.

The answer is the result of the formula... And on a whim and adequate sample size for a effective and accurate result is nearly 40,000 people... This encompases strata, culture, age, race, gender and probable understanding....

This is where you're wrong. There are several factors besides number in the sample that affect a poll's accuracy, such as: wording of the question and randomness of the selection process; which is what Buck mentioned.
The margin of error: 1000 = +/-3.1%; 700 = +/- 3.7%; 291 = +/-5.1%.
At some point there's a diminishing returns. But the other factors make the confidence interval go way below 95% (supposed industry standard, but who questions the polling agency's method?)
That 50% poll might be as low as 44.9%. This is where Buck can be wrong. But what if one of those 5% confidence intervals is the real percentage because of: zero call back policy, a mostly RDD with very few cell phone, etc. They don't give their methods usually. It's all about marketing. NBC has no reason to influence public opinion?
So in short, both of you are wrong on some aspect of this. Except, Buck trusts his man is correct! So he'll do the automatic, "silly rabbit, you don't know shit about how polls work!"
