The BIG SEED PROJECT!

Hello guys and gals
This is the BIG BEAN Project Thread!

I'm on a little mission here to find strains that have the BIGGEST SIZED SEEDS! Please HELP! For the last 2 yrs I have been working on strains that show the largest seeds, to see what traits are asociated with very large sized seeds.

I have collected strains that are genetically prone to larger sized seeds. I know conditions that the plants are grown in and other variables can change the potencial size of the seeds produced. So I look for strains that are consistant to produce larger seeds even when grown in very bad conditions.

The main goal of this project it to produce a plant that has seeds that are sized on the border of insane. The reason for this is the fact that over the 2 yrs of testing and breeding large seed strains, I have found these traits to be asociated with it.

Large Seeds =
-Stronger and more robust seedlings.
-Faster Early Growth Resulting in a larger plant with less vegative time.
-Very Large Calyxes for a potencial of extremely HIGH yeilds.

I think the Large Seed trait is one that has been overlooked for too long. I dont know of any strain on the market today that has been specially selected for this trait. So it is my mission to see if there can be something made from this and find out if it is worth it.

PLEASE POST SEED AND PLANT PICS!!
Any strain that you may have that has uncommonly large seeds, please use something to give scale to the seeds. A measuring tape or ruler would be ideal so we can pin-point the exact size of the seeds from each strain. I will be working on this project for many years to come so please feel free to join in and express your thoughts.

I've notice that the SOL seeds I received are usually big. I had few seeds from medical clubs in South California that were very plump and nice as well. SGS, I'm curious on what your personal experiences are. I can post picture of it later on when I have the time.

Row 1: Ak47
Row 2: A purple strain found in my 'Purple Urkle' journal
Row 3: Pure Power Plant

Coincidentally, the largest seeds in the pic do yield the most, but they also flower for 77 days.

The biggest seeds I have ever gotten were from Spice Of Life they were Sweet Tooth #3 and those were huge yielders.

my JTR beans were BOULDERS some ppls sprouts have trouble shulking the hull its so big

It is the purple females in my grow journal crossed with AK47. The purple strain yields very well, but so does the pure power plant, being the smallest of the seeds.

homebrewer that pic made me smile. i cant remember the biggest beans i ever got but i do remember my barneys farm red dragon was one of the bigger in the batch i ordered, close in size to the beans on the first row.
but that second row is really unbelievable, woww.

i'm subbed. i have noticed that a lot of the breeder seeds i've been getting are very small, some even look underripe. i think the breeders rush the seeds because i had a satori herm on me and the seeds that resulted were very large and ripe looking with the tiger marks and the seed i originally planted was light green with no marks on it, yet the genes should be identical coming from a herm. it would stand to reason that many larger seeds were likely grown with more care and allowed to ripen longer. some strains just have small seeds, but the idea of studying the corelation is very appealing to me.

I've gotten a fair share of smaller beans too.

My curiosity, tingpoon, is what do you hope to accomplish in your study? Any strain can produce larger seeds, as you said, there's many variables. Breeders that we buy from grow in the same conditions, grow after grow, so you'll have the consistancy more often than from some pollen chucker.

Seeds don't indicate gender, plant health, they don't fortell THC rates, sative or indica, etc....none of the things that we would find useful.

Seeds are vastly the end product of genetic disposition and timing.

Strange, I have just started a Barneys Farm Red Dragon grow and I commented that I thought that the seeds were small.

It will be interesting to see how big the seeds will be that I will produce.

Well the point of this study and breeding program is to produce a strain with massive sized seeds. Just to see what would happen to plant growth if the seeds are huge.

Meaning i want to know if i can produce a strain that is like no other. A GIANT in the cannabis gene pool, from the start. If i can produce a strain that already has a 1/4 inch stem in the first week or so of growth, can you imagine the end size at harvest. Larger plants from the start would be a sure bet for larger yeilds, and many other properties that can be used in breeding.

I will get those pics of my large seed collection, and show you some very nice specimens.

it was bred for..it makes logical senses to want to start with a bigger seedling to get a bigger yeilds IMO..and to PUNK..theres alot this whould

accomplish for one think of companys that make hemp seed oil when SGS walks up and shows them his GAINT seeds that whould produce larger

seed oil yeilds. and the possibility of connection of larger seeds and larger yeilds or beneficial traits whould be cool..

Perhaps there's an industrial benefit to larger seed size. But Large Seed = Large Plant? I'm not so sure about that.

yeah but at lest you know its not going to get any smaller..

Jack the Ripper by TGA Subcool is not only very big round black seeds, but they also have a tendancy to have twins in some of the seeds. out of the 3 i planted one had twins!
