Thrips will chew on the leaves, and you'll see small white bites at first where they puncture the leaf surface and feed on the innards of the leaf. As they continue to chew you'll begin to see a whitish legion that has an oily appearance to it.

Here's an article that can probably explain it better than me: http://ucanr.edu/sites/MarinMG/files/116869.pdf

But if they haven't gotten to infested yet you should be able to treat with a Spinosad foliar spray. I use Monterey Garden spray for these types of critters.

I beilieve it's 2 oz. per gallon of water. Repeat every 5 days, as new eggs hatch and the immature bugs can be taken care of before they lay eggs again.

Hope that helps! DUB

Last year I had thrips really bad but I didn't know what kind of bug they are and my plants didn't die but they suck up all the goodies and my cheery pies cola was the size of a 40oz bottle and while trimming it those little f***S bite the shit out of us and the when we dried it nearly all the thc was gone the buds were so fluffy it was shitty. Kill them before they infest.
