I think that if you want to do well and get good results and even on your first time out you have to get the proper equipment. If you feel you are lacking any equipment when you have problems with your plant your not going to be sure what it is.

The only way to do this is know that you are giving the plant the best of everything. I'm no miracle grower or expert I just give the plants what they want.

Also why buy things twice get it right the first time. I've got a whole draw full of 27 watt cfls, i'm just waiting for the ones that are already in the household light fixtures to die before they become useful.
i totally agree, i want to get stuff now that will last me for years, at least until i live in a house instead of an apartment. it has to be STEALTH, thats my main goal, but also i want to grow my plants to their fullest potential. the grow im doing now is one of those hydro kits w/ cfls, bought it to test the waters as far as getting away with growing in my closet. now i wish id waited n done way more research. flowering under cfls, sure im getting gorgeous sticky buds, but there could be so many more off them!! the cola is the only part that really gets enough light. my plants have great genes (masterkush) but they are only being provided with enough light to survive, not thrive. what do you think of the following stuff i've picked out for the flower chamber, which is 20" deep, 4 foot wide and 4 foot tall.

HTGSupply 400 watt High Pressure Sodium Grow Light
Euro Reflector + $59.00 (this is an enclosed reflector that is air cooled)
HTG Supply 400w HPS Bulb
Suncourt 4" Inline Duct Fan

im trying to figure out if there is anything else i need to order to set up my grow box as far as the lighting/venting stuff. at $40 shipping i don't want to have to re order! and we have no indoor gardening dealers near me, i called fifteen garden centers asking and every one said no...

oh and id prefer to go for the 250W hps, if that would be sufficient light for maximum flowering potential. would save energy costs anyway.

that inline duct fan is crap fyi. i bought the 6 inch model and it blows as much as it sucks. meaning it's completely worthless.

I'd call HTG supply and ask for advice. The guy that runs that place is great!

ok, well there's nothing wrong with the fan. my problem was with a reducer causing too much back pressure which was negating any positive affects from the fan. my bad.
