The Classics, ie NL, Super Skunk, White Widow, how do they compare to todays award winning hybrids?

Thank you for your thorough @OGEvilgenius , it's really useful, and encouraging, to know the strains you found potent enough. I was not surprised you thought Peyote Purple was weak, my surprise was more on stuff like C99 or Mextiza, of which you said "it's kind of low potency" yet many hard to please smokers find superior to even the SSH that seems to be the force behind most of your favorites. Here's what one "Twatticusfinch" said about the Mextiza on another site:

If anyone is on the fence about whether to buy some Mextiza, do not hesitate. Of all the strains I've grown over the years this is my favourite so far. Bear in mind that I've grown Neville's haze, SSH, Mango Haze, Panama, Super Lemon Haze, Skunk Haze, landrace Kumaoni and plenty more besides. Mango haze is the only one that I rate up there with Mextiza, but it flowers at least 14 weeks. Usually I take Mextiza at around the 8 week mark, which is very impressive for a pure sativa, though she was 9 weeks from seed the first time I ran her.
I love the fact that many of your favorites are from independent breeders (PeakSeeds, Sannie's, Motarebel, Jordan, etc.) who sell direct to growers.

I am real skeptical about pretty much all the reviews on ICmag as it seems people are likely to throw up positives if they weren't completely disappointed (I'm sure guy wasn't lying, the buzz is great). That said, I really really enjoy the Mexitiza buzz. Just found the flowers a bit weak. Shatter was stellar though. The flowers I tried tested around 14% THC FWIW.

C99 is nice stuff too. Better in the day for me. I stay so clear headed on it I sometimes barely know I've been smoking unless I take time to notice. If that makes sense.

Super Lemon Haze is a real nice line. Just found it a bit sedative on the end for my tastes.

Grew out Zamaldelica and it really wasn't very good at all either. Didn't find that carrot pheno people talk about though and it was regs not fems (supposedly the fems are superior).

I should add that I think some of the lines I've run and been disappointed in probably require hunting more than I had time or space to do. Haven't grown anything out I wouldn't at least try again that I can think of off hand if I had more space.

I have yet to be impressed with a cheese variety. Not bad smoke, but took a while in jars before it was really "cheesy".... not my favorite. I couldnt keep any of the 2 cheeses that I grew out from foxtailing.
Cheese bomb. I will never grow it again. I had to install a second carbon filter it is so bad. It went from melons to skunky/cheese to a skunk/cheese/sweet baby poo kind of smell. I actually gave most of it away.

I can't say for sure if I've had real white widow but out of what I've grown seedsman is my favorite. It is sativa dominant and I love sativas.

I grew 6 flying dutchmen white widow and 6 OG Raskal the white S1 seeds. the WW tested at like 14% and the the white was 23%, it was no contested.

The white was probably the second best thing I've grown. The hybrid far surpasses anything original I've grown and I grew alot of sensi seeds, nirvana staples.
I'm pretty sure the skunk #1 and super skunk, NL #5 from sensi seeds are not the same as they were in the late 90s and early 00s. I also think some breeders putting out s4 and f4+ seeds genetics are very random on 6 packs.

But the best seeds I've ever popped were from s1 clone only seeds or single clone only X F1s so far. cannaventure comes to mind here.
The white and white widow are unrelated strains.

Ya I was really pleasantly surprised with my Seedsman WW. It didn't stretch mutch at all and stayed pretty small, but smell and high was on point.

Old thread but here goes.. Im growing warlock from serious seeds and super skunk by sensi.
Its funny someone on here said warlock is a take on super skunk. When you look at the parentage it makes sense. But i will stand by and say, i love old skool. PEACE

Is c99 considered old school? It is awesome, as well as is NL #5. I believe there are very few strains that don't have any NL in their lineage. Grows compact, yields well, all your neighbors won't know you're growing.

Mine have easily withstood below freezing to well over 100 degrees without missing a beat. I'm sure if someone sold NL seeds and renamed them alien ass probe, purple gorilla cheesy cookie hole kush, people would be busting the door down to get them!

Recently, I have tasted some Skunk#1 and Dutch Treat that is in the 25% THC range. I know that THC isnt everything, but these flowers were also stinky and tasted great. The old school stuff can every bit as good as any recent strains if you get the right seed. I do think naming is mostly marketing but if you think about it, it has always been that way.
